Truly Raw Almonds From Spain |
 |
As of September 1, US
almonds
must be
fumigated, irradiated, whatever.....
I also
heard that
once the small almond businesses have been
knocked out because of the inability to purchase
the required $500,000 piece of equipment to
comply, the restrictions will be loosened. Until
then, Live food Cuisine could only find wholesale
quantities and is offering truly raw almonds 25
pounds, free shipping, $9.95 a pound, total
$248.75.
These are imported from Spain
and similar to heirloon quality. Contact

RAWhoy there maties! Hoping this email finds you
well and happy - if not, please consider adding
more living foods into your diet! :-)
Starting out with the RAW
HAPS:
· Well, we're still pluggin' away here. Matt is
making nutmilk bags for cafe gratitude and other
places, including individuals. Here's a link you can
see our nutmilk bags. How cool to see them on
another person's site! Click
here .......
· The yellow house is getting a nice face lift! I'll
have pictures up when we get a moment to do that.
· I just had an apple pie workshop at the coop this
past Tuesday that was very fun. The pie didn't last
long - it was gobbled up before it was time for bed!
It's a good pie. Easy and very tasty. Perfect for
apple season. Next workshop scheduled at HMC
is Pumpkin Pudding on Wednesday, Oct 17th
from 6-7 pm.
· Today I'm making more raw food. I'm hoping to
get things like the Not Tuna, the Superfudge and
the RAWvioli into the HMC grab and go. Sorry, I
know some of you have been asking for it, the
man on duty there who enters the barcodes has
been on vacation.
Well, good things come to
those who wait. Just think how gorgeous it will
taste when they do get there! I've been able to get
local tomatoes and lots of things late in the
season which is amazing to me. I've been getting
awesome feedback on the food so it's very good.
· Saturday night (September 29th) is a reggae
show featuring Midnite at the Bundy Center in
Waitsfield, VT. I'm making some raw FUDGE for
that so go to the show and enjoy some raw treats!
· Next Wednesday, I'll be beginning to deliver raw
food to L.A.C.E. in Barre. I'll be having some
samples there as well from about 11 until 1 pm so
please stop by there for some good eats!
· Raw Food Meals. Call for pricing! I have extra
mock tuna, crackers, chilli, pasta with marinara
sauce and FUDGE! I've been making meals for
people and selling things by the pound. Let me
know if you are interested.
· Raw Food Appliances and Staples. I have spiral
slicers, VitaMix blenders, VitaMineral green and
will very soon be carrying other raw food staple
items and appliances. Call for more info and
pricing!
RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Another apple recipe! Can't help myself!
I've got a lot of apples this year. This recipe is
written pretty cutely.
Simply Decadent Caramel Apple Dip - http://www.goneraw.com/recipes/1584-
Simply-Decadent-Caramel-Apple-Dip-
serving size: 1 serving if you are me
Holy sweet-tooth luxury! This is a dangerous
recipe to make more of if you are alone in the
house. Really much better than SAD caramel
sauce. It goes best with tart green apples.
Ingredients
* 4 tablespoons tahini
* 3 tablespoons maple syrup (maple best for
real carmel taste)
* 4 medjool dates
* 1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
* 2 tart green apples
Preparation
I THINK these are the measurements I used (-
ish)...maybe more tahini. Adjust for your own
sweet-salty-tart-tooth.
Process till dates are fully blended in
(it's nice to soak dried dates in lemon-water for an
hour before mixing in). I like a little more salt - like
1 1/4 tsp that really goes awesome with the
sweetness.
Enjoy RAWdient health,

Roommate Wanted |
 |
Hello,
I was wondering if you knew of anyone in the NE
raw community that was in need of a house-mate,
preferably in the Boston area. I am currently living
in Boulder CO and am considering moving back
east for a couple months to be closer to family
before taking off abroad. If I move back east I
would really like to live with like minded people...i
think it would make the west to east transition a
bit smoother :) I would be looking for a place from
November until maybe the first of the year...that
date is flexible though. Also can you tell me more
about the raw community in NE, again specifically
in and around Boston.
Thanks,
Melissa, melissa3382@earthlink.net

opening and often hilarious walk down the grocery
store aisles. He will demonstrate how to tell the

health. You will learn a simple system that will
help you identify the healthiest foods.
Jeff Novick is Director of Nutrition at the world-
renowned Pritikin Longevity Center in Florida,
where he instructs in the prevention, management,
and reversal of disease through nutrition and
lifestyle modification. Jeff is known for his

been vegetarian for over 30 years, and vegan for
the last 24.
Going Nuts!: The Facts On Fats
Jeffrey S. Novick, MS, RD, LD, LN

diet? Are nuts and seeds good for you? Every day
the headlines are filled with conflicting information
about fats, oils, nuts and seeds. Are you "Going
Nuts" trying to understand all the controversies?
Find out the real "facts on fats" regarding all these
issues and more.

Building the Perfect Soup
Chef Cathi DiCocco
It will be fall and thoughts of soothing, hot soups
jump to the front burner. Chef Cathi's
soup/chowder class is always a hit in the fall as
people turn to comfort foods, (beans & root
veggies). Learn to make stocks, "creaming" soups
(vegan), freezing for future meals, and an overview
of bean and grain cookery. Cathi will teach two
soup recipes that call on different techniques.
Recipes and samples will be available to those in
attendance. Cathi DiCocco is chef and owner of
Cafe de Cocoa, a vegetarian restaurant and

Burma - Myanmar |
 |
Burma's generals have brought their
brutal iron
hand down on peaceful monks and protesters --
but in response, a massive global outcry is
gathering pace. The roar of global public opinion is
being heard in hundreds of protests outside
Chinese and Burmese embassies, people
round
the world wearing the monks' color red, and on the
internet-- where our petition has exploded to over
200,000 signers in just 72 hours.
People power can win this. Burma's powerful
sponsor China can halt the crackdown, if it
believes that its international reputation and the
2008 Olympics in Beijing depend on it. To
convince the Chinese government and other key
countries, Avaaz is launching a major global and
Asian ad campaign on Wednesday, including full
page ads in the Financial Times and other
newspapers, that will deliver our message and the
number of signers. We need 1 million voices
to be
the global roar that will get China's attention. If
every one of us forwards this email to just 20
friends, we'll reach our target in the next 72 hours.
Please sign the petition at the link below -if you
haven't already- and forward this email to everyone
you care about:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/stand_with_burma/t
.php
The pressure is working - already, there are signs
of splits in the Burmese Army, as some soldiers
refuse to attack their own people. The brutal top
General, Than Shwe, has reportedly moved his
family out of the country - he must fear his rule
may crumble.
The Burmese people are showing incredible
courage in the face of horror. We're broadcasting
updates on our effort over the radio into Burma
itself - telling the people that growing numbers of
us stand with them. Let's do everything we can to
help them - we have hours, not days, to do it.
Please sign the petition and forward this email to
at least 20 friends right now. Scroll down our
petition page for details of times and events to join
in the massive wave of demonstrations happening
around the world at Burmese and Chinese
embassies.
With hope and determination,
Ricken, Paul, Pascal, Graziela, Galit, Ben, Milena
and the whole Avaaz Team

Skin Brushing |
 |
Skin Brushing - Brought to you by Randy
Jacobs
Skin brushing is one of the better self-help health
care methods available to us today. Stimulation
of the skin activates natural healing pathways
within your body. And the stimulation of these
natural healing abilities maintain normal health
while being extremely effective for improving the
quality and shortening the time in recovering from
injuries. Skin stimulation removes toxins and
unwanted materials from pores and other external
surface areas. It also stimulates nerve beds
within its structure that in turn activate normal
healing pathways and healing processes
throughout your body. It is a well established fact
that skin brushing paves the way to a better
quality of healing and health. It's what makes
natural health care different from any other non-
Wholistic program you might have heard about,
read, or tried. There are no drugs involved, no
toxic reactions or contraindications to be
concerned about, only the commitment to yourself
to perform it on a regular basis. Let's get deeper
into skin brushing.
Skin brushing can be used over the entire body or
just to special local areas to stimulate the body's
normal inflammatory healing response. This can
be an excellent daily routine for the "Prevention of
sickness & disease". Skin brushing is easily
incorporated into your morning or evening shower
or bath. But remember skin brushing can also be
used very effectively for rehabbing new and old
injured areas on your body as well. Dry brush
exfoliation also improves lymph and blood
circulation and decreases puffiness. An added
benefit is that the gentle pressure is calming to
the nervous system.
Benefits:
TIGHTENS Skin.
HELPS Digestion.
REMOVES Cellulite.
STIMULATES Circulation.
INCREASES Cell Renewal.CLEANS Lymphatic
System.
REMOVES Dead Skin Layers.
STRENGTHENS Immune System.
IMPROVES Exchange between Cells.
STIMULATES the Glands, thus helping ALL of the
Body Systems to perform at PEAK EFFICIENCY!
How To Do:
Buy a NATURAL, NOT Synthetic, Bristle Brush,
since it does NOT SCRATCH the Surface of the
Skin. Buy a Brush with a LONG Handle, so that
you're ABLE to get to the Areas of your Body, that
are NOT EASY to reach, when doing your own
Skin Brushing.
Skin Brush, before Showering or Bathing, at least
ONCE per day, and TWICE, if possible.
Do NOT wet Skin, since it will NOT have the
SAME Effect, because this stretches the Skin.
ALWAYS Skin Brush towards the Heart.
Do Circular Counter-Clockwise Strokes on the
Abdomen.
Do LIGHTER Strokes over and around Breasts,
but do NOT Brush the Nipples.
Brush each part of the Body several times
VIGOROUSLY, COMPLETELY Brushing the
WHOLE Body.
Brush the Soles of the Feet FIRST, because the
Nerve Endings there affect the WHOLE Body,
next Brush the Ankles, Calves, and Thighs, then
Brush across your Stomach and Buttocks and
lastly Brush your Hands to the Arms.
