Letter from the President, Michael DeLuise
Ten years ago the Melville Chamber of Commerce took on its first challenge by addressing solutions to the significant vehicle traffic problems facing the 110 Corridor. Working with local and state agencies we are finally seeing positive results from these ongoing efforts. Bureaucracy is another kind of traffic being addressed by the members of your Chamber. You would think new technologies and advancements in communication would make it easier to do business, yet more and more of our members seem to be faced with government roadblocks that stand in the way of their success. Our members are not looking for government handouts or taxpayers money. They just want the opportunity to make their own money. In fact local business leaders are very happy to do their fair share to help build a better Long Island by paying taxes and partnering with forward thinking elected officials and the agencies serving our community. Those who do business on Long Island know how to work hard to achieve success and are anxious to do so. The success of Long Island's business community lies in the creation of productive business/government partnerships. Businesses large and small must create strategic alliances with the local, state and federal elected officials that do more than merely create headlines. We must have concrete results. Currently the Melville Chamber is working to put together several business/government partnerships. We are partnering with the town of Huntington to address the future of the 110 Corridor with a well thought out plan that will be beneficial for the entire community and our neighbors throughout Long Island. We are still concerned with traffic and the Chamber continues to address the need for convenient public transportation. The reality of seeing a LIRR station at Republic Airport and the addition of viable public transportation along Route 110 may very well stand in the hands of a partnership of forward thinking local business leaders and local, state and federal agencies. Recently members of the Melville Chamber met with representatives of most of Suffolk County's local chambers and County Executive Steve Levy to form a coalition of chambers we are hopeful will add strength to the small business community. As the Melville Chamber of Commerce continues to grow in membership and respect we ask you to join us as a participant in Long Island's future. We appreciate your membership and involvement. We also need your input and support. Let us know what you need to help you succeed. Call us when you face a roadblock or speed bump. We can help you, your employees and their families. Just tell us how we can help you.
