Letter from the President, Michael DeLuise

Let's work together to make 2011 a year for positive change.

Recently there has been an exciting energy growing among the membership of the Melville Chamber of Commerce. This has been especially evident over the past several months as our members take a very active role in helping each other succeed. It is an almost daily occurrence for the Chamber office to receive calls, letters and emails praising the Chamber's role in opening new business opportunities.

If you attended any recent Chamber event you experienced first hand how Long Island's leading business leaders put things together in an informal, friendly and frequently very profitable business arrangement.

The Chamber membership has now taken a leadership position in several projects that will make a significant positive impact on commerce and life throughout Long Island. Sensible public transportation is an issue close to our heart. We have pledged to do all within our power to support the opening of a LIRR station at Republic Airport.

For years we have been listening to reasons why this project is a difficult one to bring to fruition. Certainly it is time for something to be done. As traffic along the 110 Corridor continues to grow choking our economy and quality of life, it is up to those who live and do business in the area to take action. In 2011 the Melville Chamber intends to increase our efforts to partner with government to solve this challenge and address others.

We will explore alternate means of public transportation that will finally ease north/south movement along the 110 Corridor and possibly other areas of Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The Melville Chamber is dedicated to deliver results to the community we serve without frills. We operate with very little overhead. The work of the Chamber is accomplished by a volunteer board and dedicated committees.  Our mission is to help you do business, not to hold gala dinners or showcase movie stars and international figures. If you want to see the stars we suggest you discover some of the local theatrical and cultural venues that are prized Chamber members. They offer world-class entertainment at an extremely reasonable ticket price.

The stars we introduce you to are your fellow business leaders as well as the men and women you have elected to serve your needs locally, state wide and nationally. Membership in the Chamber includes regular no-cost opportunities to meet, shake hands and share a cup of coffee with your county executive, town supervisor, council leaders, state senator and assembly reps, congressman and U.S. senators.

In the coming months the Melville Chamber promises to continue to deliver the solid results our members have grown to expect.  Through smart planning, supported mentorship programs and intimate one-on-one interaction we plan to keep moving constantly delivering positive change.  We are always here to listen to what you need, speak on your behalf and help your voice be heard.

Happy New Year! Your Chamber looks forward to working with you to make great things happen for the 110 Corridor and everyone on Long Island.

Best regards,

Michael DeLuise
