Letter from the President, Michael DeLuise
On behalf of the board and staff of the Melville Chamber of Commerce we wish you all a wonderful holiday season. Long Island business leaders have a great deal to be thankful for. As Thanksgiving 2010 approaches this is a good time to look at the cup as half full. Although we have been faced with some very interesting challenges recently there are great things happening throughout the Long Island business community. Leading the charge as the heartbeat of Long Island business is a very strong 110 Corridor. From single proprietorships to multimillion dollar international businesses that call Melville their home member companies of the Melville Chamber of Commerce have set the mark of corporate excellence that brings strength to local, national and international economies. When we speak to the members of the Melville Chamber it's great to hear that business is good and that's usually what we do hear. Of course things could always be a little bit better and that's when our members call on the Chamber for a little extra help. This year hundreds of local professionals have benefited from their membership in the Melville Chamber of Commerce. Sales people have honed their skills. HR executives have improved their personnel retention. Business owners have met with elected officials. And sales have improved. The rapidly growing membership of the Melville Chamber has also committed itself to the needs of our neighbors in need. In the past months thousands and thousands of dollars have been raised in support of organizations including the Salvation Army, the American Heart Association and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Our members and the companies they represent help to feed the poor and guarantee that children in need will receive holiday presents. Without a doubt the route 110 family is 110% committed to our neighbors and to our neighborhood. Another way our members help their neighbors is when they make an effort to purchase what they need locally. The recent annual Huntington Restaurant Week brought thousands of new customers to local restaurants adding hundreds of thousands of dollars to the local community. Each dollar we spend locally is multiplied in value as it encourages employment, commerce and a long-term commitment to the future. Each and every one of us can add strength to the Long Island business community in many ways. When you are in search of new talent start by looking for your next employee right in your own backyard. There are many great and qualified Long Island men and women available right now. Call a local college and learn about their internship programs. Long Island students are among the most capable and sought after in the nation. What better way to invest in the future than to build it with young professionals who already know and love our community. The sole purpose of the Melville Chamber of Commerce is to focus on your needs. Through the Chamber's rapid growth it appears that businesses large and small appreciate our efforts. If you feel there is something we can or should be doing to help you, your employees, your customers or your family please let us know.
Best regards,
Michael DeLuise President Melville Chamber of Commerce
