Letter from the President, Michael Deluise
If you're doing business on Long Island you realize that the 110
corridor is the fully energized heart of
our business community. The hundreds of diversified businesses headquartered
along Route 110 and the surrounding area pump an economic life throughout
Suffolk and Nassau counties. The thousands of skilled men and women who work
along the corridor are what Long Island business is all about. If the Route 110 corridor is the heart of business on Long Island
then our much traveled roadways are the arteries that feed the heart. Since the
Melville Chamber of Commerce was first created we have realized the need to
support the infrastructure of our community. The great volumes of traffic experienced every day along Route 110 and
the surrounding roads are actually a great testament to the thriving success
our businesses are realizing even in
these difficult economic times. But we can't afford to be stopped in traffic. To maintain a
healthy heart or arteries cannot be congested. That is why your Chamber has been
working very closely with state and local officials to solve the major traffic
challenges that make it harder for each and everyone of us to do business
successfully. Recently with the help of local leaders funding was obtained from
Albany to make much-needed improvements to Walt Whitman Road. These necessary improvements are scheduled to be completed
quickly over several months with promised minimal disturbance to any businesses affected by the
construction. Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone has been a great help
with this project. He has also offered to give us up to date on the projects
progress. In the coming weeks you will be able to find regular updates
regarding the road construction on the Melville Chamber website. Recently we were disturbed to hear that Governor Patterson
announced that state finances would not allow for the completion of projects
such as the necessary improvements to Walt Whitman Road. Although we certainly understand that New York
State, along with the rest of us, faces tight budgets, this is not the time to
take a step backward. Our State leaders
must realize that in order to succeed we must invest wisely in the future.
Without a working infrastructure for a business community such as ours will not
survive. Please take a moment to contact the governor and your state
representatives to remind them of the importance of their much-needed continued
support of the business community they serve. If you need help or direction in
reaching your elected officials please let us know. We are here to work with
you to make our community a strong and successful as possible. Your chamber is working very hard on your behalf to improve your
roadways, public transportation and quality of life. Our mission is to support
your needs and make things better for you, your employees and families. Our
motto is "Prosperity through Unity". Let us know if you have a problem that we
can help solve. Working together we can unclog the arteries and feed energy to
the heart of Long Island business while we make the 110 corridor an even better
place to work, live and do business.
Best regards,
Michael Deluise President Melville Chamber of Commerce
