Issue No. 308
August 2012

After celebrating a decade in business in August of 2011 the SolidLine crew is excited to add another year of production to the history books. And the last year at SLM has been an exciting one, which was kicked off by the opening of SolidLine's brand new production facility in Chicago's loop. It also brought on a plethora of great new production projects and clients as well as four new full-time SolidLine crew members. What does the SLM crew have to say? Find out below!

ARTICLE: SolidLine Director of Social Media Marcus Leshock's candid discussion with the crew about the SLM anniversary and what the future holds.

The SolidLine Summer Interns are dueling again, but this time there will be no bowls of ice cream or mascots to cheer them on. Interns Dylan and Ryne were given one day each in the editing suite to create a unique production about SolidLine's past 11 years, utilizing the same footage of staff interviews about the anniversary. The interns had full control over their edits with only three rules: Keep the video under three and a half minutes, feature each SLM staff member at least once, and get it done in one day! They were also allowed two hours of motion graphics artist time from the SLM Art Department.

The edits are in and it's now time for our fans to vote. Click on the link below to check out each of the edits and vote for your favorite intern video. The winning intern will receive an amazing trophy and respect from the SLM crew. Voting will be opened until August 22nd.

The SLM Art Department continues to push out high-end motion graphics and 3D animations each and every day, and our need for top-notch artist talent continues to grow as well. SolidLine is beginning the search for a new addition to the Art Department. The fourth Motion Graphics Artist position is currently being explored, which will enable SolidLine to produce even more motion graphic and 3D content, while still maintaining high SolidLine quality standards.
"It's exciting to see the Art Department continue to grow," exclaims SLM Art Director Mike Petrik. "It's always crazy busy in the Art Department so the new position will enable us to get our graphic sequences to the editors even more efficiently!"

2 Qs with SolidLine Summer Intern Dylan Ptak

So, what do you feel you've learned most during your time with SolidLine?

I've learned a lot during my time with SolidLine but I'm mostly grateful for all my experiences on set with the crew at various locations around the country. I definitely gained the most from our shoots and witnessing interactions with clients as well as how we worked through problems that arose while on production.

If you could relive any birthday, which one would you choose and why?

I would relive my 16th birthday because the feeling of freedom when you turn 16 is like no other. I convinced my dad to let me go to school late so I could get my license before and drive to school. It was great! My 21st birthday is a close second for obvious reasons...

We're blowing out the SolidLine 11th Birthday candles! What's your wish?

Mike Petrik, Art Director

I wish I had the key to Ed Boe's heart. But some gal swooped in and stole it from right underneath me. I've already moved on to getting Dylan's heart key, but still. I was so close to Ed's heart key, I can't help but feel defeat.

Ed Boe, Director of Photography / Editor

A new Canon 5D mark 3, or barring that some popcorn from Garretts, and some Portillos Italian Beef, and some Lou Malnatis Deep Dish Pizza, and a Hot Dog from Hot Dougs, you know... dinner Chicago style.

Kevin Wright, Producer

I wish I was a little bit taller, wish I was a baller, wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her, wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat and 6-4 Impala.

Marcus Leshock, Writer

My wish is for every social network to join forces into one Super Social Website. That way I'd only have to post in one place and we would all have more free time!

Justin Younger, Motion Graphics Artist

I wish that science advances fast enough in my lifetime to allow me to travel to the stars and see the human race ascend in to the singularity and live forever under foreign stars and multiple dimensions.

John Courchane, Editor

More coffee.. Oh look, my wish already came true!

Adam Marzec, Motion Graphics Artist

I wish SolidLine would get a masseuse to rub our shoulders and feed us grapes after a hard day of work...

Allison Miller, Production Coordinator

A nap. I wish for a nap... And some cheesecake.

Dylan Ptak, Summer Production Intern

I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger.

Ryne Knudson, Summer Production Intern

I wish I was a real boy.

Michael Kromm, Director of Post Production

Another healthy SolidLine year.

Greg Vass, Executive Producer

I wish for everyone to get their wish. Especially Justin...he loves space and the moon and Mars.
