Producer Needed

Hi Raindancers

I am an award-winning writer/director (and former Raindance student) looking for a producer for a road movie. I am funding the project myself at this point and shooting Guerrilla style on a Canon 5D and 550D as and when I can and pulling favours where ever I can. I have a small crew in place, good industry contacts and a couple of cast.

For more info please feel free to check out www.theworkshoppresents.com and e-mail me at craiggriffith@fsmail.net ref: THE LONG ROAD.

Things We Like

There's a new screenwriting book out that takes a more pragmatic/cynical approach to things. Read the very funny interview with the writers.

Working with Actors

For example I don't work with William Hurt the same way that I will work with Viggo. They're different guys and they work in different ways. So a good sensitive director has his general style and technique and personality that he uses but you don't impose that on the actors.
David Cronenberg

I like to rehearse with the actors scenes that are not in the script and will not be in the film because what we're really doing is trying to establish their character, and good acting to me is about reacting.
Jim Jarmusch

I never said all actors are cattle; what I said was all actors should be treated like cattle.
Alfred Hitchcock
Do's & Don'ts of rehearsing with actors
Director and actor

Actors are often over-looked, especially by the more technically minded directors who simply expect them to "do their job."

But coaxing a fantastic performance out of an actor requires a great deal of understanding and communication by the director.

Here Chris Thomas, who teaches our Directing Actors course, breaks down the major do's and don'ts of rehearsing with your actors .
