Greetings!

James Burbidge 2What a summer, eh? Still, I hear all this rain is good for the farmers.

It's good for all you writers too, as long as your garrets are well waterproofed. But if you do fancy getting out and about we've a couple of cracking opportunities for you.

Paying their only visits to the U.K. this year, we've got two big Hollywood screenwriting teachers in town. Steve Kaplan knows everything (alright, just a hell of a lot) about comedy. And John Truby will take you beyond 3-Act structure to organic screenwriting. These guys really know what they're talking about, so don't miss out.

Here's hoping the weather picks up for the weekend!

Review: The Beaver

Walter is depressed and suicidal, and his wife just kicked him out, with their son's blessing. When he finds a beaver puppet it takes over his personality, turning him into an upbeat cockney family man.

Worth a watch if you can get past the Gibson thing.

Hollywood Executives

"My attitude about Hollywood is that I wouldn`t walk across the street to pull one of those executives out of the snow if he was bleeding to death. Not unless I was paid for it. None of them ever did me any favors." James Woods

"Crikey, mate. You`re far safer dealing with crocodiles and western diamondback rattlesnakes than the executives and the producers and all those sharks in the big MGM building." Steve Irwin

"The inner dynamics of Hollywood are like politics. Say you give a script to a group of executives - they all sit around, afraid to voice an opinion, saying nothing, waiting to know what the consensus is. Just like focus groups, opinion polls or a cabinet." Joe Eszterhas
