Greetings!

James Burbidge 2Welcome.

This week we're full steam ahead with all our foundation courses (which are going very well, thanks for asking). We're also putting on a Live!Ammo! for the London Screenwriter's Festival this weekend, as well as running our 'How to Make a Short Film' course (last chance to sign up!).

We're also gearing up for our next Boozin 'n' Schmoozin - come along, meet writers, producers, directors and filmmakers of all sorts. It can be the start of a beautiful friendship.

So it's busy, busy, busy for us and, we hope, for you too.

Have a great week!

Ever considered offing an exasperating spouse?

Frederic Casella's short Exit Strategy presents a dark consumerist solution in a surreal world not so different from our own.  As his wife practices yoga in the mirror, a man in a white bathrobe makes funeral arrangements on the house phone.  The premise, though bleak, is intriguing and surprisingly funny.

Learning from the playwrights

"I loved Feydeau's one rule of playwriting: Character A: My life is perfect as long as I don't see Character B. Knock Knock. Enter Character B."
John Guare

"Most playwrights go wrong on the fifth word. When you start a play and you type 'Act one, scene one,' your writing is every bit as good as Arthur Miller or Eugene O'Neill or anyone. It's that fifth word where amateurs start to go wrong."
Meredith Willson

"The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast."

No-one said it was easy

It's the film industry. You know its hard, we know its hard, probably only Mr Cameron thinks it's easy.

But... there's no reason not to try and make it easier on yourself and there's no reason to make these basic mistakes. In many cases, we've made them so you don't have to.
