Greetings!
As Course Director it's a very exciting time down in the Raindance bunker, with our Open House next Tuesday starting the new term. This year I've been working on integrating courses with the Festival and so today I'm launching a new range of short courses which cover a range of topics not usually covered by Raindance. These '99 Minute' Workshops include: Sound, Editing, Scoring, DSLR Cameras, VFX, SFX, Casting and Self-Promotion, along with Directing and Finance classes. We've got an array of outstanding tutors lined up for these classes, so have a look at the details and email me to be kept updated with developments. courses@raindance.co.ukRory O'Donnell Course Director |

Blog of the Week
Dave On Film Dave Taylor talks about film, reviews movies, interviews actors, directors and producers and talks about what it takes to turn a great idea into a script.
Things We Like
The Editing Room A hilarious website full of abridged scripts for any, and all films. With references to the directors and actors in a harsh manner this website is slightly crude and absolutely gripping.

Last night we celebrated the closing of the Welcome to the Extraordinary
competition, and we are delighted to announce the winners. Kevin
Curtis 'Clown Showdown' took home the main jury prize and he will be
heading to the Cannes Film Festival in May. 'Extraordinary Toys' by Toby
Dale won the YouTube prize and a pair of tickets to the BIFA after show
party; and Lizzy Oxby was selected to win a Flip Mino camera for her
entry 'Manhattan 4.33pm'. You can read the press release here. Thank you to everyone who entered - we were overwhelmed by both the
number of submissions and their quality - and selecting the finalists
was extremely difficult. All entries can be seen on welcometotheextraordinary.com

For a chance to win some great computer hardware and tickets to the BIFA after show party, check out the Muvizu animation competition - submissions are open until October 10. |

| How actors choose their scripts
"My approach to acting is that I am totally intuitive. I read the script and I get it. If I don't get it, I can't do it." Morgan Freeman
"If it's a good script I'll do it. And if it's a bad script, and they pay me enough, I'll do it." George Burns
"I only sound intelligent when there's a good script writer around." Christian Bale
"When an actor comes to me and wants to discuss his
character, I say, 'It's in the script.' If he says, 'But what's my
motivation?, ' I say, 'Your salary.'" Alfred Hitchcock

7 tips to make a reader fall head over heels
|
| Make the reader fall in love with your script
Now a script consultant and a filmmaker, I started in the industry as a
reader for the International department of Canal Plus and TF1 in Paris. I
dug out a few gems but mostly spent my time yawning my way out of an
ever-replenishing fountain of dull scripts. I thought you'd love to get
some insight from behind the scenes and know what these necessary evils
called "readers" and "development execs" crave for. Read these 7 tips to keeping me awake! |
