Greetings!
Hey! I'm Chris, the latest in a prestigious line of Raindance interns, here to introduce this weeks newsletter.
My tasks include charging through Soho with packages (I don't question the contents), addressing envelopes and helping to research a top-notch newsletter for you fine people.
When outside of the Raindance cave, I spend most of my time watching obscure Japanese films and writing un-filmable 190 page epics.

How to make a Short Film
Short films might not make you heaps of money (though you could get lucky) but they are: 1) A fantastic home film school 2) A great way to get noticed Tutor Simon Hunter made 50 shorts before he was 18. Sure a lot of them were rubbish but that practice has lead him on to directing $multi-million Hollywood productions. In this course he teaches you not only how to make a short film, but what you need to know to leverage those films into a successful career.

The Power of Lighting
Light is the most important tool available to you when enhancing the
atmosphere and mystery of your story on camera. On the shoot, the
Director of Photography will spend the greater part of his or her time
getting the lighting set-up to best represent the scene's aesthetic and
emotional needs. Using a digital camera and a simple lighting kit, this workshop will
introduce you to the basics of lighting for moving pictures, with
emphasis on working on the low-budget digital formats. What? The Power of LightingWhen? Monday 14 June, 6.30-9.30pm Where? Craven

Blog of the Week
The script reader is the gatekeeper you need to get past if
you want your script to land on the desk of Hollywood's big shots. Take a look at this blog by the Bitter Script Reader where he shares what he's learned... Mostly because he's sick of
reading bad scripts.
Things We Like There's a name for every cliché, no matter how small. TV Tropes proves that every story, idea
and character has been done before.
Renounced The documentary of oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix's
attempts to launch his hip hop career is almost here at last. It is 'not a hoax'... Not that we're
making assumptions or anything.

This week has been a bit manic to be honest and we've all been pushed to our limit - although not in quite the same way as in Steven Hore's Push. Meanwhile our lovely intern Elise Merriman has left us with some thoughts on marketing. Check out her blog post.

Review: Lockjaw

'Lockjaw' is the story of a giant snake used for revenge killings, and

is a small bit part. For those expecting 'DMX Versus The Giant Snake'
(as its been billed in some places), you'll be disappointed. If,
however, you're after an atmospheric horror which tries to fail, you
might give it a try. Read on... |
