Hallo, everyone, I'm Xiaosong
I'm now doing my intern at Raindance 2-3 days/week I'm studying Media&Culture at London College of Communication, and quite interested in film industry. I was a volunteer during the last year Raindance Film Festival and that gave me a chance to know cool people here.
The Office's location is pretty much a cool place, Soho, and working here can give me a basic knowledge of part of this industry.
So glad can be a intern here. XiaoSong Raindance

7 things I learned from my first feature
|
|
My name is Tim Barrow and I'm an actor, writer and independent film
producer. With director Charles-Henri Belleville I made The Inheritance, a
no-budget Scottish road movie which premiered at Raindance 2007, won the Raindance Award at the BIFAs, was nominated for 2 BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards and
screened at 10 film festivals. Making an indie film is always going to be a challenge but it's a great experience. The film was my debut as a producer and what I learned can be summarised
as follows...

Review: Revanche

Named after the German word for 'revenge', you can guess what ' Revanche' is about. Writer/director Götz Spielmann knows this. He's purposefully set up a preconception in the title. So, what's it really about? A couple's attempt to escape the world of prostitution starts as a plot heavy crime-based drama, and slows to become a meditative piece about redemption. |
Jaws in Space!
Alien won an Oscar in 1980 for Best Visual Effects and was hailed by
many as one of the best science fiction films to come to our screens. The script, formerly called StarBeast, (I know, not quite as
catchy) took at least 3 years to write and was taken from the original
writers at a point and given to Walter Hill and David Giler.
O'Bannon and Shusett eventually got the script back but accepted their
counterpart's contribution in adding the subplot of Ash, the android. Alien wasn't original. Shusett is quoting as saying "I didn't steal
Alien from anybody. I stole it from everybody!" including...

Avoiding Shaky Footage

Mobile phone filmmaking is a growing phenomenon. Everyone can access a small film camera these days and everyone can make a film. Many are finding out that it's not quite as easy as it looks. One giveaway of an amateur film is a shaky camera. That's why they use it in things like the Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield. If your not making a faux-documentary however, you're going to need to keep your camera steady. Find out how in our article on Avoiding Shaky Footage. |

Vote for Me!

Former Raindance trailer director Jarl Olsen has a request...
"At a producer's request, I did something in questionable taste. OK, that's not true; my taste level ain't that high when it comes to most things. Said producer, Rebecca Elise, did suggest that I enter a contest to create a commercial for the online domain registry, "Go Daddy".
We shot in an open grocery store Sunday morning in Albuquerque, just as some of the tweaked locals were coming down from their weekend meth jag. Their screams had to be taken out of the audio track at great expense. Ms. Elise paid to fly me in and put me up and called in a bunch of favors to do this spot. If enough people vote for it, she may get her money back.
Hey, I've voted for enough things other people have done, I figure it can't hurt to ask. The spot is called "Cover Up" and you can see it and rate it at http://bit.ly/94PqFY.
I apologize in advance to any of you who will be offended. It's a genre piece. Thanks. Hope this finds you well. Jarl Olsen"
