Greetings!

David FreemanHi everyone,

My name's David Freeman. I live in Los Angeles, land of endless traffic jams, but I'm going to pry myself away from them to visit Raindance. For the 7th year in a row, I'll be teaching my "Beyond Structure" screenwriting workshop on April 24-25 (and a class on Pixar's moviesthe Tuesday before).

It's become the largest screenwriting class in LA, New York and London, and it looks like we'll be selling out this upcoming one too. I do hope you'll check it out, and see why so many famous writers, directors, producers, and important film and TV executives have attended the class in the past and are already enrolled for this one.

Maybe London can stage a six-hour traffic jam to make me feel at home?

See you soon, and email me if you have questions: freeman@dfreeman.com

Something else we do at Raindance is use filmmaking to help improve their lives. Recently we have lead a project involving adults with mental health problems.

Take a look at this article from the Guardian and our short videoabout the project which Elliot and Frederica worked on.

We are proud to be involved in such work but to continue it we need your help.

Working the Net

I'm searching for two enthusiastic people to work on a feature film next week in North London. I need a runner and a script supervisor/continuity - it would be preferable to have someone's who's done continuity before. Unfortunately there is no pay but expenses will be covered and of course there's the bonus of meeting new people and gaining invaluable  experience. The 'named' actor is Toyah Wilcox and there's even a former Bond Girl in it too. The story is about three women who prove that life isn't over for the over 50's it's called 'The Power of 3'. If there's anyone who's free and willing, the dates are Sunday 18th April (this  Sunday) to Saturday 24th April.
Cheers

This month, Raindance.tv celebrates filmmaker Lazar Ristovski. Born in Yugoslavia, the actor/director/producer/screenwriter has appeared in such highly-acclaimed films as 'The White Suit' (1999), a comedy/drama about a man's memorable experiences on his train ride home to his mother's funeral, and the award-winning movie 'Optimisti' (2006).
Review: The Ghost
The Ghost

Genre confusion arises when a film doesn't know what it is. More accurately, it's when a filmmaker doesn't know what he's going for. While it's fine to combine elements of different genres, when a film tries to be everything, it often winds up becoming nothing. 'The Ghost' is the story of a ghost writer, who's brought in to rewrite the memoirs of a former Prime Minister, only to unravel a complex plot.

Creating a Personal Genre

DVD

Our life is the era of personal genre. Everyone is competing to get work, and before you are hired, employers want to know what 'story' you are. What you are and how you use it will determine what jobs you get, who you develop relationships with, both personal and professional.

As screenwriters use genres to distinguish themselves, your personal genre is what will set you apart from everyone else.

I Need That Record!
The Death (or Possible Survival) of the Independent Record Store

MVD Visual is pleased to announce the release of "I Need That Record! The Death (or Possible Survival) of the Independent Record Store" (which screened to great success at Raindace09) for N. American distribution on April 17 (Record Store Day). It will be offered exclusively to independent record stores for a period of 90 days. Afterwards, it will be available everywhere on July 27.

"An elegy for a vanishing subculture...a lively, bittersweet film that examines - with caustic humor, brutal candor, and, ultimately, great affection - why roughly 3,000 indie record stores have closed across the nation over the past decade," (Johnathan Perry, Boston Globe).

Featuring THURSTON MOORE of Sonic Youth, NOAM CHOMSKY and many more, the DVD is packed with 2 hours of extras of extensive interviews with Mike Watt, Ian MacKaye, Thurston Moore, Glenn Branca, Patterson Hood, Pat Carney, and Legs McNeil.
