Smart Film Marketing
Blair WitchSome films have a buzz about them, an aura of intrigue that just makes people want to see them and want to talk about them. Whether the film turns out to be any good or not doesn't matter, if thousands of people are talking, writing, blogging and tweeting about it, it's sure to be some kind of success.

But this buzz, it doesn't come out of nowhere, it is usually the result of a carefully crafted, well judged and expertly run marketing campaign.

Frederica Byron takes a look at 4 films which had that buzz and how it was achieved.

Truby Avatar
Avatar In all the visual splendour of James Cameron's Avatar, it's easy to overlook the script. In fact, the Avatar screenplay has come in for the same abuse Cameron's Titanic script earned. You've heard the complaints: the story is a Pocahontas rip-off. The bad guys are just evil villains. The dialogue is stilted. In short, great visuals, bad screenwriting.

Quotes
"But when you're writing a script - for me anyway - you have to sort of create an enforced innocence. You have to divest yourself of worrying about a lot of stuff like what movies are hot, what movies are not hot, what the budget of this movie might be."
- David Cronenberg

"You can fool all the people all the time if the advertising is right and the budget is big enough."
- Joseph E. Levine
