Greetings!

Our BIFAs happened on Sunday and were a roaring success.

Sir Micheal Caine and Daniel Day-Lewis both received awards, as well as a whole host of other faces, both new and familiar.

The event was covered on film by t5m and the BBC's Film 2009 (about 7 minutes in) and also in the Guardian.

In other news, will this film be the new District 9?

10 Famous Director's Disastrous Movies
Even the best make a mistake every once in a while.

The LadykillersMany Hollywood director's lead mediocre film lives, churning out mediocre and bad films.

When one of the greats turns out a turkey however, it is often something initially championed and swiftly buried.

Think of this list, 10 Famous Director's Disastrous Movies, as a sort of grave-robbery.

Relive the British Independent Film Awards

With the 12th annual British Independent Film Awards in the past, the only thing to do is relive the extravagance of the night's festivities held at the upscale London venue 'The Brewery.' Filled with celebrities, cocktails, dancing, and conversation the night, all-in-all, was a complete hit.

If you missed out, or want to look back on all the excitement, be sure to check out the photo gallery, videos, winners, and even an attendee's colorful retelling of the after show party at RDTV.

Until next year's event...

Propeller TV, the team behind the original launch of the TV  channel, are now set to  launch a new filmmaker platform, which is currently in a preview phase and can now be seen at our website.

At present, there is over £2 million of funding available to makers of short films. This site is the only one where details of all funds are given along with full information as to how to apply.

Much of the site is free to use but the invaluable funding information is frequently updated and for that there is a nominal charge. In order for us to get the best possible feedback, we are offering filmmakers a unique opportunity to sign up before the end of the year, for a special price of only £9.50 for three months to trial the site, before its official launch in the New Year.

Something About Raindance
Raindance's Belgian intern Julian tells us about his BIFA evening.

Julian Chapelle Don't you sometimes have that feeling you're at the right place at the right time? This is exactly what I felt last Sunday evening at the British Independent Film Awards.

What an incredible experience, where you're a little bit disconnected from reality. Did I really bump into Ken Loach, Daniel Day-Lewis and Eva Green? Mmmh, guess yes! And who's this? And her? And him there a little further away? "Come on Julian, don't you know?" was I told. I had to face it, I was surrounded!

I would never have imagined going to the British Independent Film Awards when I arrived in London a couple of months ago! Didn't know anyone here, but life goes fast doesn't it? Plans for the future include going back next year, recognizing more of those famous people and receiving an Award one day!
I guess the London dream exists?

My personal favourite is the Black and White category 1st prize.
Quoted
Only one newsletter after this one and I've got something special lined up for that, so this week I'm getting the Christmas quotes out early:
Raindance Logo
"There's nothing sadder in this world than to awake Christmas morning and not be a child."
Erma Bombeck

"I stopped believing in Santa Claus when my mother took me to see him in a department store, and he asked for my autograph."
Shirley Temple

"Christmas at my house is always at least six or seven times more pleasant than anywhere else. We start drinking early. And while everyone else is seeing only one Santa Claus, we'll be seeing six or seven."
W.C. Fields

and my old favourite:

"Christmas is forced upon a reluctant and disgusted nation by the shopkeepers and the press; on its own merits it would wither and shrivel in the fiery breath of universal hatred."
George Bernard Shaw

Me, cynical... Bah, humbug, one and all!

Truby Breakdown: Paranormal Activity

Paranormal ActivityJohn Truby, screenwriter and tutor takes a look at the structural successes and failures of the box office hit 'Paranormal Activity'. He argues that its success is predicated on its little known actors and the directors in depth knowledge of the horror genre.
Renounced
Renounced Oscars producer Adam Shankman asked viewers to tweet what they'd like to see in the Oscars ceremony next year and received a barrage of responses.

High School Musical and Twilight seemed to be the most popular, prompting a backlash from people fearing a takeover by pop culture.

Personally, I'll stick with the BIFAs!

Amnesia: Dark City

This dark, film noir-esque science fiction was largely eclipsed by The Matrix when it came out in 1998. Written and directed by Alex Proyas, who also directed I, Robot, it draws you in from the start with an amnesiac protagonist who doesn't know whether he killed the dead woman in his hotel suite. After a phone call from the mysterious Dr Schreber, he is forced to flee and soon finds himself hunted by corpse-like creatures with incredible mental powers. Whether you're a fan of science fiction or not, this film is definitely worth a second look.
