5 Steps To Low Budget Film Success
In recent years, we've seen a number of directors and producers put together successful films on a relatively low budget such as The Blair Witch Project, Juno and London To Brighton - just to name a few.
Limited budgets can be extremely difficult for filmmakers to be successful with. Follow a certain set of guidelines for a film to reach its maximum potential.
With that in mind, here are just a few simple, basic guidelines to putting together a successful film on a limited budget.

Molly knows what it's like to be miserable at work. Follow her through her morning in Dead End Job, as she suffers the taunts and attitudes of her co-workers and daydreams endlessly. Sometimes, however, horrible days just push us too far.

Burma VJ: Reporting From A Closed Country
A few weeks back we posted a link to Burma VJ in our newsletter. After weeks of speculation, here it is, a review of Burma VJ by Raindance's Jules Garnett.
In Burma VJ, a collective of brave and dedicated citizen journalists fight to show the world the brutality dominating their homeland.
In the first review for Raindance's new Critical Content section, Jules Garnett asks if there really is such a thing as a 'closed country'.

From Across The Pond...
We were so sad to see our wonderful intern Charlie Burroughs go! But we somehow managed to get him to keep writing for us and we couldn't be happier!
This week, Charlie brings you an indepth review of Martin Scorsese's film Taxi Driver (1976.)
Charlie explores themes embedded in the film and the way in which the Scorsese does a deep psychological study of Travis (Robert DeNiro), a man searching for his place in life.
Following Travis' taxi down New York City's underbelly also reveals
dozens of frustrated people searching for purpose in a country after a
purposeless war.
Go on and read about this Lonely Cab Driver, brought hot off the press for you straight from the states and the smokin' hot keyboard of Charlie Burroughs.

Critical Content - What's in a Review.

In the first article for Raindance's new Critical Content section, Jules Garnett discusses online reviews and talks about what to expect in criticism to come. Make sure you find out What's in a Review.

Praise!
We love receiving e-mails about how our courses have helped your films! This one is no exception! Read on for some Raindance praise.
Hi, Just
to let you know we are getting a lot from the Raindance Courses we have
both attended. We made our first short film last autumn and I entered
it for a couple of smaller festivals. It was the official selection of
the ReelHeART International Film Festival in Toronto a couple of weeks
ago and we flew over from the UK. But the really good news is
that it was seen by a Distributor over there and they contacted me on
my return to the UK offering worldwide distribution. This is our first film and our first Festival and don't think we could have done it without Raindance. Look forward to the documentary course. Best wishes Deanna Dewey

Guten Tag,Tykwer - try pronouncing that one. Say it aloud because Tom Tykwer (tick-ver) has made it onto our fine list of fabulous filmmakers!
This German composer and director is best known for his 1998 film Run Lola Run. The film grossed $7 Million in the US box offices and soon after became the most successful German film for the '98 year! But that's not all; the film was also nominated for and won many awards including the Independent Spirit Award for Best Foreign Film as well as Sundance Film Festivals Audience Award, just to toot this director's horn. The success of this film cured Tykwers financial problems (the all so familiar setback that many indie filmmakers face in post-production) and enabled him to continue work on other films, including the film Heaven (2002) which starred actress Cate Blanchett and was produced by Mirmax.
True to independent film, Tykwer has also said that his 10-minute short True (2004) with Natalie Portman "symbolizes an entire life for me, in just ten minutes."
In more recent years, Tom Tykwer shot 5 minutes Paris, Je t'aime (2006) which is a collaboration from 20 directors who each shot 5 minutes of film in the city of love: Paris. Dankeschön, Tom Tykwer for all that you have accomplished in the independent film world, keep on composing and directing, we love it!
