Westshore Master Plan Update
Work is progressing rapidly on the Westshore Master Plan. At our last Master Plan Committee meeting, our consultant presented his initial findings and solicited much needed input from more than 40 Alliance members and local agency officials. You can view a copy of the meeting presentation, exhibits and summary of feedback at our website. The plan will be complete early next year and will identify specific improvements to streets, sidewalks, parks, etc. that will foster new private-sector investment and create opportunities for economic development throughout Westshore. Street Resurfacing in Westshore
The Westshore Alliance has been working with City of Tampa staff to identify streets in Westshore in need of repair. As a result of our efforts, the City of Tampa is resurfacing several streets in Westshore. Work is underway on portions of Trask, Union, Main and Laurel Streets and should be complete by June 5. The work that had been scheduled on North A Street has been put on hold to work on water main issues. See a map of specific work locations here.

The Westshore Alliance is assisting the Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) with a study to explore the feasibility of transit circulator service (local loop bus service) within the Greater Westshore Area. Be the Face of Tampa Bay. Volunteer for the Republican National Convention. The 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee needs thousands of volunteers to be the faces of Tampa Bay during the week of the 2012 Republican National Convention. Volunteers will welcome guests at local airports and hotels throughout the area, as well as support Host Committee programs and a variety of events during the year leading up to the convention. Panera Bread will be opening a new location at 3420 West Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. late this year. The new cafe will feature their first Drive Thru operation in Tampa.
Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc. has renewed their lease agreement at Colonial Place II in the Westshore market for an 11-year term. The 26,000-square-foot office in Tampa is headquarters to the Checkers & Rally's franchise.
USAmeriBank has purchased the property at 405 N. West Shore, formerly owned by Continental Jewelry. They will be opening a new branch at the location later this year.
A variety of locally based restaurants are now in operation at Tampa International Airport, highlighting the Tampa Bay area's culinary offerings to travelers. New restaurants include First Flight, a wine bar by Tampa restaurant Mise en Place, Green Iguana Bar & Grill, Cigar City Brewing, Shula's Bar & Grill and fast-casual concept Shula Burger and the Columbia Restaurant Café
Atlanta based Perennial Properties, has recently filed a rezoning application with City of Tampa for a proposed apartment complex at 4310 W. Spruce Street. The proposal, which is subject to City Council approval, is for a 200 to 300 unit apartment complex. It is tentatively scheduled for a public hearing before City Council on August 9.
