Dear ISF Community,
Flashing to the Finish! We are on the doorstep of finishing an amazing year at ISF. On a gloriously sunny day on Friday, we held the Senior Commencement Ceremony, for the Class of 2012, for an unprecedented forty-four graduates. Highlighting this milestone day were featured speakers, ISF Founder Horace Gibson, the Honorable Mayor Matteo Renzi, who delivered an inspiring commencement address, Jason Blackstone, Faculty Speaker and the two top academic students: Valedictorian, Beatrice Emanuele and Salutatorian, Maria Balymova. More of the accomplishments of this outstanding class will be included in the final newsletter of the year in late June, including fitting recognitions of the graduation ceremonies for grades five and eight.
The Boys' Soccer team stunned the field of nine other fierce competitors, in Germany, winning its first ever European Championship! The team, under the spirited leadership of Coach Roberto Clausi, closed out a memorable season with this magnificent effort by our boys. The annual Field Day Event, for students in grades KG-11, will be held this Friday, June 1st at the Campo Sportivo Sorgane.
The annual Spring Gala, held on 20 April, 2012 and attended by over 200 people, was a record smashing success! Proceeds of 60,000€ will be designated for the installation of playground equipment at the Junior School and for the purchase of Technology at both campuses.
In another newsworthy note, The Junior School Principal Selection Committee, comprised of eight members of the JS staff, recently completed an exhaustive search for this important position. I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Michael Colaianni as the new Principal of the Junior School. He has been recognized as a National Distinguished Principal by the Elementary Principal's Association and has 16 years of successful international experience as a school Principal. He most recently served as Principal of the Canadian Academy for the past eight years in Kobe, Japan. Mr. Colaianni will assume his new role on August 1st with a staff/parent welcome reception planned for late August/early September.
Keep the fire glowing at ISF,
Regards,
Larry Hobdell

This Year's Gala
A Night to Remember

This year, ISF celebrated their 60th Anniversary at the annual Gala. In keeping with tradition, the evening was held in a sumptuous location, Villa Corsini in Mezzamonte. Guests were given the star treatment complete with a red-carpet arrival, flashing cameras and microphones pushed into faces with "What Are You Wearing?" It seems the answer to that was that many of our local and home-bred designers were well represented; everyone looked amazing and the atmosphere was charged. Guests were enticed through several linked rooms - all bulging with amazing silent auction offerings - and eventually to the exquisite dining-room. Once dinner was under way, the Live Auction began. Sean Ferrer and Amanda May had the room buzzing and waving paddles, outbidding each other and fortunately, ultimately, reaching this year's record target of Euro 60,000. Then the dancing began and the cocktail bar opened... and the rest, as they say, is ISF history.

Knit-a-Thon | |
The knit-a-thon, held at the Junior School on Friday evening of the 18th of May 2012, was so successful that the Tanzania Project has decided to organize and sponsor another such event, Thursday, the 31st of May, at the Upper School. Anyone who knows how to knit is welcome to join the ISF knitting club and the Tanzania Project in their efforts to have fun and to support the Project's cause. Also, anyone who doesn't know how to knit but would like to learn should see Ms. Bandini before Thursday the 31st. The Tanzania Project members have also organized a sizzling barbecue as well as other fun crafts, such as making bibs for the children in Africa. Come for a night of fun and support of the Tanzania Project's cause! For more information, see Gaby Tama (Grade 11), Sophie Tobin (11) and Ms. Koesterer. |
MS Cinco de Mayo Dance |
|
On May 4th, the Middle School Student Council hosted its third dance of the year. The theme was Cinco de Mayo. The aula magna was brightly decorated. Music filled the students' hearts as authentic Mexican food filled their stomachs. The food and decorations were graciously donated by the Leal family. It truly was a fantastic fiesta!
