Weekly E-Newsletter September 18-24, 2011

The Scholastic Book Fair will be delivered to Richmond Drive this week!  The book fair is the primary fund raiser for our school library.  We earn 25% of gross receipts in cash or 50% of gross receipts if we purchase new library books directly from Scholastic.  Library bound books can cost anywhere from $12 to $20 each, so book fair profits are a real boost to our library budget. These added funds allow us to purchase new library books to support curriculum, online subscriptions such as Tumble Book Library and helps to finance library programs like Battle of the Books, and the South Carolina Book Awards. When you buy a book at the book fair, you are showing your child that reading is important and you are making it possible to enrich our school's library collection.

For a sneak preview of what books are available at our book fair, please visit our Scholastic Book Fair webpage!  And if you can volunteer some time at the book fair (Sept 22-30), please contact Mrs. Armstrong at darmstro@rock-hill.k12.sc.us.  All volunteers must have completed and submitted their volunteer application to the District Office to volunteer at the book fair.

Health Notes - RDES is always willing to accept donations of boys and girls pants and shorts sizes 6-14 that parents would normally donate to Goodwill.  Nurse Lamb uses these items, along with purchased new underwear and socks, in the health room throughout the year.

Late Start - We will have a late start staff development day this Wednesday, September 21.  Doors will open at 9:00am and we will operate on a two hour delay.  If you need any help with child care that morning, please contact the main office at 981-1930.

School Board Seeks Parent & Community Input - Do you have something to say to the School Board?  Now is your chance to have a voice.  The School Board has posted a survey HERE to gather the comments and concerns of the community.  Please make time to have your voice heard by completing the survey.  School board members are reading every response and using those responses to shape our school district.
