RABIES UPDATE

Reminders

The Cornerstone newsletter is generally kept light hearted and fun, but we feel the recent increase rabies incidents are important enough to remind our clients about their pets and Rabies protocol.

Recently there have been incidents of pets being exposed to wild animals that tested positive for rabies, this includes skunks, bats and birds. One incident involved a skunk biting a human. When encountering wildlife, please be aware of any abnormal (disoriented, lethargic, nocturnal animals out during the day etc...) or aggressive behavior and report to local animal control City of Buda Animal ControlHays County Animal Control ,City of Kyle Animal Control

Pets in central Texas can potentially be exposed to Rabies in urban, suburban and rural settings. These wild animals are out and about around our homes even if we can't see them. Keeping your pet up to date on their rabies vaccination greatly reduces the risks posed by wildlife.

State law requires that all pets must be vaccinated BY 16 weeks of age followed by a vaccination within the next 12 months, and then every 1-3 years thereafter, according to veterinary recommendations and local rabies law. If you have any concerns about your pet and whether or not they have been exposed, or if a pet is in need of a rabies vaccine, please call us.

  National Pet Week

Celebrate Your Pets the week of May 1st-7th, 2011

Our pets play an important role in our daily lives. They provide companionship and unconditional love. THIS WEEK CELEBRATES THEM!

Show your pet some extra love and do some spring cleaning on your pets bedding area, or toy basket. Cleaning out all the old chewed up toys and getting a few new ones will make your furry pet smile on the inside. Make an appointment for your pet to get a bath at a groomers! There's nothing like a good deep down clean before the summer begins. There are also "do it yourself" doggie bath salons now, if giving a bath at home just isn't possible. Quality time with your pet is always a great way to show them you love them, an extra few minutes of play time, or brushing their coat or just lazing around with them are all things they'd appreciate.
