No Stone Goes Unturned

Gracie Lower XRay                                  Gracie Lower XRay 2

Gracie Lower is your typical 5 year old Golden Retriever mix. She has had her share of skin and ear issues, but came to us one day in December wanting a resolution to her frequent urination that came on suddenly. Dr. Burke did the necessary testing and upon the results of the radiographs he did, they discovered that Gracie had a bladder full of stones ! Most pets with the same issue, can typically have anywhere from 1 to sometimes 10. Gracies had so many we couldn't cound them on the radiograph! Gracie's surgery went very well, and she is on her way to a full recovery!

Fit and Healthy

With the New Year....comes new RESOLUTIONS! Most pet owners don't even consider their pets when planning their resolutions. Our furry friends could benefit from some of our new healthy habits in 2011! The #1 resolution, almost every year, is to eat better and do more exercise. Help yourself AND your pet by taking Fido along for a walk or run or keep Tom the cat active by getting out his old play toys. This  not only gets you up and moving, but allows more time for you to enjoy your companions! Picking out healthy foods for ourselves is hard enough, but worth the effort. In turn, taking the time to read a few labels or asking your veterinarian some questions about which food he or she recommends is an easy way to start feeding your pet a healthy diet. The staff at Cornerstone Animal Hospital is always on hand to answer any questions you may have about your pets nutritional health.

Keeping Warm

Cat Under umbrellaWinter weather is here, and even though our furry family members prefer to be outside, we as owners should take a few steps to ensure they stay safe and comfortable during extreme weather conditions. When the temperature falls make sure pets have a warm place to stay. The optimal choice is indoors, but at the very least, make sure pet is out of the elements or has covered shelter that is insulated and up off of the ground to ensure no moisture cannot get to bedding. For outdoor kitties, REMEMBER they love to find and climb up in the warm engines!!!! Before you start your engine, PLEASE check to make sure your vehicle does NOT have a feline friend warming up underneath it. Here in  the hill country we can get cold enough for water bowls to freeze! Please check your pets water everyday. If you travel with your pet to a climate with snow, pet booties are available to keep their paws protected.
