Dear  ,

Spring has finally arrived in Hillsboro and fresh beginnings are in the air. The voter's elected new city leadership and the Chamber of Commerce recently seated its new Board of Directors. We also revamped our committees to better serve the goals of the Chamber and its members.  We all want to make our Chamber "blossom" this year, and with your help we can make that happen.

The Chamber welcomes a diversity of thought and opinions and I hope you can volunteer to join one of our committees.  We need YOUR valuable knowledge and expertise, so contact Lesley at 532-3711 or email hillsborochamber@consolidated.net if you are interested in serving on one or more of the below committees:

Finance Committee
Chair: Dennis Fenton, Mike Ryan, Gene White.
The finance committee assists the Treasurer and Executive Director building the annual budget and monitoring the Chamber's financial decisions.

Programs & Communication
Chair: Dennis Fenton
The programs committee is responsible for coordinating and hosting Chamber events and activities and for Chamber outreach and education.

Economic Development/ Tourism & Retail
Chair: Greg Holcomb
This committee represents the Chamber in economic development issues, including business retention and attraction and is responsible for supporting events in Hillsboro and Montgomery County that encourage tourism and support local retailers.

Agribusiness
Chair: Tony Herman
This is a joint committee with the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce.  The Agribusiness committee represents the chamber to the agricultural community.  The committee coordinates two pork patty sales, one in the spring in Hillsboro and another in the fall in Litchfield.  With those proceeds, the committee awards two scholarships to high school seniors in Montgomery County.

2000 & Beyond
Chairs:  Lesley Pollard & Zach Wygal
The 2000 & Beyond Committee focuses on creating opportunities and beautification of Downtown Hillsboro.  The committee plans and coordinates the planting of the flowers on Main St., Second Sunday Summer Concert Series, the Golden Grille and Christmas activities.

Farmer's Market
Chair:  Alan Holman
This committee is responsible for coordinating the Hillsboro Farmer's Market by creating farmer relations, community outreach, promotions, sponsorships and project management. The goal of this committee is to work with customers, food purveyors, farmers and other vendors to play a key role in maintaining and expanding market activity.

Until next month,

Why is Hillsboro home to your business? County seat of Montgomery County.

Tell us one thing about your business that most people wouldn't know.

Some people don't know it is their choice where they have their land title service needs fulfilled. Not their realtor's or their lender's.

What do you like best about Hillsboro?

Church Street Pub, Milanos Café and Canton Inn...we are fortunate to have such dining choices in a town the size if Hillsboro, and I frequent them often.

Thank you

Illinois Where Fresh is

Vendor Space Available at Hillsboro Farmers Market

In addition to fresh produce, folks can expect to see a fresh look at the Hillsboro Farmers Market this year.  After two years downtown on the Plaza, committee organizers decided to move the market to behind the historic Challacombe House located at 509 School Street.  A beautiful, central location will provide a bigger space allowing for more vendors and plenty of ample parking.  This new location is expected to attract many more customers.

The Hillsboro Farmers Market is now accepting vendors for our third season, set to begin on Thursday, May 12th.  Commitments can be made for a half season, the full season or on a weekly basis.  Fees are nominal and vary according to the seasonal commitment.   Vendors who have not participated at the market in the past will be given one free week to try out the market.

The Chamber is also seeking sponsorships for the market.  Individuals or businesses can sponsor the full market season for $50.

The market will open on Thursdays from 3:00 - 7:00pm from May 12th - October 27.  Vendor applications and copies of the Hillsboro Farmers Market guidelines can be obtained via the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce website at www.hillsborochamber.net; by contacting Lesley Pollard at 532-3711 or hillsborochamber@consolidated.net.

THANK YOU

Wonderful Volunteers!!!!
Thank you

Thank you to the many volunteers who helped with the Chamber Spaghetti Dinner before the Roubaix Bicycle race on April 1.  Volunteers graciously donated baked goods, pre-cooked spaghetti and helped man the dinner.  A very special thank you goes out to the Chamber's immediate past president Gene White for volunteering his time and expertise by cooking the spaghetti and sauce.  Without Gene the dinner could not have taken place.

In lieu of having another town hall style meeting between now and the installation of the next City Council, I invite emails (to hvfd681@yahoo.com) regarding ideas for improving the Hillsboro downtown experience. I would like to discuss the ideas with the incoming City Councilmembers with the intention of holding another town hall meeting after May 10th to refine some of those ideas and develop a plan for making them reality.
