Dear  ,

Well here we are in February.  The nice thing is that we have more of winter behind us than in front of us.  In spite of the inclement weather there is a beautiful side to all this snow.  I am just trying to figure out what that is right now! It dawned on me as I prepared to write this President's message that this will be my last message as President of the Chamber of Commerce.  Next month our new President takes office.  Terri Miller of Miller Enterprises takes office March 1.  Terri brings with her fresh ideas as well as new enthusiasm.  Please rally your support behind her as we start our new year.

Our first major fund raiser takes place on April 1st with a spaghetti dinner at the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church prior to the 10th annual Roubaix Bicycle Race.  We will be discussing some of the particulars of that dinner at our next Chamber meeting on February 18th at 12:00 noon at the Moose Lodge.  Please slot a time in your schedule to join us.

Have a Happy Valentine's Day!

Dennis McCammack of Scheller Insurance was recognized as the January "Member of the Month," and was presented with a certificate at the January monthly meeting at Hillsboro Country Club.  Scheller insurance is located at 616 W. Union Ave, in Litchfield, and was started in 1952. The business provides a full line of insurance to local customers.

McCammack said that while the main office is located in Mt. Olive, he has an office in his home to make it easier for Hillsboro customers.  One thing about his business that most people don't know is that 54 percent of their business is commercial insurance and Scheller Insurance has offices in Hillsboro, Litchfield and Mt. Olive.

For more information about Scheller Insurance, contact McCammack at 324-4456 or 532-3770 or find them online at www.schellerinsurance.com.

The Chamber welcomed new member Dave Rahe of Soil-Right Consulting Services, Inc., to the organization on Monday, January 31.

Rahe runs the Hillsboro branch of Soil-Right from his home office and keeps up with the latest on insects and plant illnesses by attending classes around the Midwest.

Some of these classes are equivalent to an entire college semester in just one 40-hour week class.

Rahe also maintains communication with his peers using Twitter during his busy seasons and he tries to post daily on his blog at daverahe.blogspot.com.  He can be followed at daver819.

"I try to post on my blog everyday and let people know about what I'm seeing while I'm out in the fields," Rahe said. "Using these social tools helps maintain open communication with the worldwide network of consulting services Soil-Right is part of."

With their main office in Shipman, Soil-Right Consulting offers a variety of agricultural services including soil mapping, sampling, nitrogen management and field record keeping. For more information on the business, visit www.soilright.com.

Rahe may be contacted by calling either 532-6887 or 494-7451.
