Connecting Points this week:
Look at your child's baby book with him. Talk about how happy you and others were when he was born. Talk about the Bible story and the men who were happy about Jesus' birth.

Offer your child lengths of gift wrap to tear. Set a box or plastic bowl on the floor; he can place the pieces in the box/bowl. Talk about the gifts that the men brought to Jesus.

BTFK 3-preK The Big Idea: I can discover that people showed love to Jesus because He was special.

The Bible Story: Wise Men Gave Gifts to Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12)


Connecting Points this week:

Take an outdoor walk with your child and talk about the trip that the wise men took to Bethlehem. Encourage your child to talk about the Bible story, telling you what he recalls. Thank God for sending Jesus.

Provide star stickers and paper strips for your child to make Bible markers. Help him find Matthew 2 in the Bible and place a marker there. Point to the word "star" in the Bible passage.

If you are traveling this week, allow your child to help you pack the suitcase or car. Recall the wise men's trip.

Connecting Points this week:

Recall ways you have worshiped during the Christmas season.

Read Matthew 2:1-12 together. Take turns reading the verses. Talk about what the wise men did to worship.

Play worship CDs during your family activities this week.

The Bible Story: Wise Men Worshiped Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12)



Connecting Points this week:

As you put away Christmas decorations, show the wise men figures and say: "The wise men traveled a long way to worship Jesus. We can thank God for Jesus."

Go outside and look at the stars. Comment: "The wise men followed the star to find Jesus. The wise men worshiped Jesus. We can thank God for Jesus."

Cut and prepare a crown for your child to decorate and wear. Remark: "The wise men asked King Herod where to find the special child. King Herod told the men to return when they had found the child. Did the men return? Why not? King Herod wanted to harm the child. The wise men worshiped Jesus. We can thank God for Jesus."

Ask: "Why does our family worship God?"

Talk about how your family worships.

Take time to worship throughout the week by praying, reading the Bible, and singing.

Play "God I Worship You Because" as you drive around town. Begin by saying, "God, I worship You because You ______ (fill in the blank with a reason your worship God)." Invite each family member to make the statement and fill in the blank.

Connecting Points this week:

Help your preteen learn the memory verse. Point out that God wants all people to worship Jesus.

Talk about the Bible story. Ask your preteen to offer definitions for the word worship.

Explain that the greatest act of worship is giving your life to Jesus and accepting Him as Savior. Be available to answer questions your preteen might have about becoming a Christian. Pray, asking God to help preteens understand that becoming a Christian is the first step to worshiping Jesus as Savior.

The Life Question: How do I share the good news about Jesus?

The Biblical Truth:
We share the good news when we tell others about Jesus and invite them to accept Him.

Talk with your teen about how he or she can be more involved with sharing the good news about Jesus. Encourage him or her to  be praying about being involved in summer mission trips your church organizes and to commit to going if the opportunity arises. Look for family mission trip information at www.namb.net.

Questions to ask:

Why do you think it's important for Christians to be empowered by the Holy Spirit when they share their faith?
What is a good question with which to open a witnessing conversation?
What are some ways you can prepare to share the good news about Jesus?
