Stay warm to keep polar bears cold!
|
Platinum Sponsor Canada Goose makes the warmest parkas on the planet. And this year they've partnered with Holt Renfrew to offer limited-edition toques that benefit PBI. Their goal is to raise $100,000 to help underwrite our efforts on behalf of polar bears.

Waiting for Freeze-Up
It's the second week in November with only traces of snow in Churchill--and no sign of ice on Hudson Bay. "There's no ice on Hudson Bay, and there's no ice north of us, either. To venture a guess, we're still a month away from freeze-up, although weather conditions can change quickly --and that's what we're hoping for," says Dr. Andrew Derocher, PBI Advisory Council scientist. | more

 | | PBI Senior Scientist Dr. Steven Amstrup and Matha Stewart |
It's a Good Thing, Martha
No, Martha Stewart wasn't in Churchill to give advice on stylish satellite collars--she was there filming a special on polar bears to air on her show in November. While there, she interviewed our senior scientist, Dr. Steven Amstrup, watched the bears from a Tundra Buggy®, witnessed a Polar Bear Alert airlift, and learned about the conservation challenges facing these magnificent animals--and the work that PBI is doing to address them.
Don't miss the show. Watch local listings for day and time.

Have you tuned in yet to our Tundra Connections webcasts? Our educational outreach from Churchill is an exciting chance to chat live with world-renowned scientists and educators--and also to enjoy footage of polar bears prowling around the tundra. This year, people from around the world are participating, thanks to new partnerships with Discovery Education, the Center for Biological Diversity, and zoo organizations like AZA, AAZK, and CAZA. There's nothing else like it!

Stewardship Tip: Turn Down the Heat
Are you a steward of the Earth? Do your part to help save polar bear habitat by turning down your heat by a mere two degrees. Also, weather-strip your doors and insulate. Small changes like these add up--and save you money, too!
