Science vs. Opinion
At the Association of Zoos & Aquariums' annual
convention in Houston, September 13th, PBI brought together a panel of leading scientists to discuss climate change and its impact
on polar bears.
Drs. Steven C. Amstrup, Andrew E. Derocher, Michael E. Mann, Tom S. Smith, and Ian Stirling helped the audience understand the
difference between opinion, knowledge, and incontrovertible fact on the issue of climate change. | Learn more

Biggest Little
Ambassador
At
birth he was the size of a pound of butter. At four months, he weighed 36
pounds.
His name is Siku, which means ice
in the Iñupiat language and he's learning quickly how to be a polar bear. He's also the most popular attraction at Ohio's renowned Toledo Zoo. | Find out more

A Friendly
Competition

Which
American Zoo Keepers Association (AAZK) chapter can raise the most money to plant trees? And what do trees have to do
with polar bears? Find out by visiting our Trees for You & Me webpage.
(Hint: More trees = less CO2.) Get involved. You can DONATE to your favorite chapter. It's a cool initiative that can make a big difference in the health of our planet--and polar bears' well-being.

Back-to-School Stewardship
Habit
Here's any easy-to-do Green Tip. You can help
keep zillions of little plastic bags from clogging up landfills by using
reusable sandwich and snack containers when packing school lunches. And while
you're at it, choose a lunchbox over paper sacks. (Maybe hunt down a fun vintage one from
a thrift store!) Kids--and adults--need to know that small lifestyle changes add up to make
a difference-- and can help polar bears and other wildlife.
