Broken Ice & Ship
You'll love this handy chart that lists the most common arguments by global warming skeptics - and then explains what the science really says.

Also check out the Climate Change Primer by Dr. Steven Amstrup.
It explains the science in understandable terms.
Look! No Paper!
By reading PBiNews online, you're helping polar bears by saving trees. And you're not just saving paper. You're also eliminating chemical waste and transportation fumes. This all adds up to good news for polar bears, butterflies, frogs - and, yes, you and the planet.

The connection may not seem obvious at first, but planting trees can help save polar bear habitat. That's why PBI has named its ambitious new tree-planting initiative the
Polar Bear Forest.

Polar Bear Forest is a joint effort with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK). The pilot program focuses
on planting several Polar Bear Forests in Wisconsin. Learn more

Polar bear scientists have returned from spring census work in Alaska's Chukchi and southern Beaufort Seas. Difficult weather led to fewer bear sightings in some parts of the Arctic - and conditions were so mild that biologists worked without parkas or gloves.

Every spring, research teams study the bears to take population counts and check on the bears' health and condition. Biologists Andrew Derocher and Mike Lockhart share their impressions of this year's field work.      Learn more

Peeping Mom
Scientist Megan Owen, lead researcher on the PBI Sound Study project, recently experienced the white, cocooning silence of a polar bear snow den while working on Alaska's North Slope.

Canada's Zoos Spread the Word

Applause for the Canadian Association of Zoos & Aquariums (CAZA)! It has launched a national awareness campaign to engage Canadians in preserving biodiversity in the Arctic. As part of its outreach, CAZA partnered with PBI to help educate the public about the richness of life dependent on the sea ice - and to inspire action to save this fragile network.

Paw 2 Paw
Several new polar bear exhibits that create a strong emotional connection with visitors have opened at PBI Arctic Ambassador Center zoos over the past couple of months: in San Diego, Columbus, Chicago (Brookfield Zoo), and
St. Paul (Como Zoo). All carry a strong conservation message and encourage their visitors to take action to reduce carbon footprints.

Green Tip: How to Kick a
Bag Habit

Every year, people use 500 billion to one trillion single-use bags. Most end up in landfills or clog our planet's ecosystems. You can help by switching to reusable bags. Your CO2 savings: 29 pounds per year if you currently use an average of six plastic bags weekly - and 87 pounds for six paper bags.
