Read below for fun ways to stay active outdoors this fall and winter. Also, check out our recipe and exercise of the month and learn how you can help us fight hunger! 

 

Salvation ArmyTis' The Season To Donate
Are you looking for a way to give back to your community

this holiday season?  

 

You're in luck! All SportsCare and Armworks clinics are official drop sites for canned and non-perishable food through the Salvation Army. If you would like to donate food this holiday season, stop by one of our clinics and look for the Salvation Army donation barrels located in our lobbies.

 

*The donation barrel at our Clackamas clinic will be located downstairs in the East Side Athletic Club lobby.

  

 


Holiday Closures

All SportsCare and Armworks clinics will be closed on Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th for Thanksgiving.

Winter Activities In The Northwest
Looking for some great exercise in the outdoors this winter? Check out what Mount Hood has to offer!
 
Mountain Activities
Downhill Skiing, Snowboarding & Telemark Skiing:

Ski Bowl
- America's largest night-ski area with over 34 lighted runs, featuring 90 acres with 1,500-foot vertical drop and is a favorite with skiers and snowboarders.

Timberline - Located at the 6,000-foot level on Mt. Hood, Timberline offers year round skiing and snowboarding on more than 1,000 acres of ski runs and terrain parks.

Mt. Hood Meadows - With an annual snowfall of 430 inches and five high-speed quads, Mt. Hood Meadows offers the most varied, diverse and exciting runs on Mt. Hood. 

Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing:

 

Trillium Lake Snowtrails - Six miles groomed trails for traditional XC skiing and snowshoeing. Trails are generally groomed a twice /week from Thanksgiving until April. Ski right from your Government Camp Lodging onto trails that connect to Trillium. Dogs allowed on a leash. Donation requested.

 

Teacup Lake - Located one mile north of Mt. Hood Meadows on Oregon 35. Generally groomed several times / week per week for both skating and traditional XC skiing. There are 12 kilometers km trails of trails, a toilet and warming hut. $5 donation requested. Dogs and snowshoers prohibited.

 

Mt Hood Meadows Nordic Center - Generally open on the weekends and holidays. (www.skihood.com), Enjoy 15 kilometers of groomed skating and set track through beautiful wooded trails and meadows. Rentals available. Track fees range from $5-$10. Dogs and snowshoers prohibited.

 

Cooper Spur Nordic Center - Offers 6.5 km of cross-country ski trails groomed for both skating and traditional cross country skiing. Separate trails for snowshoers. Trail fee varies from $5-10. Rentals available. Dogs prohibited.

Portland Fighting Fillies Fundraiser!
The Portland Fighting Fillies are selling Portland Winterhawk's tickets to the January 13th game at the Rose Garden. It is mascot night. Tickets are $22 each (valued at $24.75) and also includes a Winterhawks hat. Cassie Dunsire, a Physical Therapist at our Clackamas clinic is the Quarterback for the Portland Fighting Fillies, so help us support Cassie and the Fillies!

Portland Fighting Fillies 

Recipe Of The Month ~
Chicken-Biscuit Pot Pie
 

 

Filling

2 ½ cups baby-cut carrots (12 oz)

2 cups cut-up fresh broccoli

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

½ cup chopped onion (1 medium)

2 cups chicken broth (from 32oz carton)

1 tablespoon chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried sage leaves

2 cups cubed cooked turkey

 

Biscuits

4 slices bacon (cooked)

1 cup Original Bisquick mix

½ cup milk

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (2oz)

 

1. Heat oven to 400 degrees. On stove top, heat 1 cup water to boiling. Add carrots and broccoli; cook about 4 minutes or until carrots and broccoli are crisp-tender. Drain.

 

2. In a 3-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion; cook about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Beat in flour with wire whisk. Gradually beat in broth and sage. Reduce heat to medium -low; cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens. Stir carrots, broccoli and chicken into sauce. Spoon chicken mixture into ungreased 2 quart casserole.

 

3. In a medium bowl add crumbled bacon and remaining biscuit ingredients; stir until blended. Spoon biscuit batter around edge of turkey mixture.

 

4. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until biscuit crust is golden brown.
