Friends of Chomsky Fight Back!
|
Our world record has been topped by not one but two larger gnomes! There's a cement one at the University of Iowa Gardens and a fiberglass one in Poland. (Read the back story here.) Chomsky's fans have great ideas to help win back the title! We premiered
two of them in the last press release, and here are more. |
Since material doesn't matter to Guinness, convert Chomsky into an inflatable gnome, proposed Tom Herling. | A gigantic farm tool adds height and that "American Gothic" vibe, and was suggested by both Mona Lombardi and Deborah Artman, Deborah pointing out that the object on the end could be up-sized as necessary. | Another gnome riding on Chomsky's shoulders was Wayne Kelder's idea.
 | Platform shoes would give Chomsky the lift he needs, and were suggested by Joe Holdner, Sue Cosgrove and Chris Butler. | High-heels give Chomsky a chance to express his inner drag queen. A tip o' the chapeau to Terry Anya Hayes. | "I think Chomsky's stature could be elevated by his obtaining a higher degree. There are many online programs, so he could matriculate while staying on the farm. A PhD from MIT, where another Chomsky once walked the halls, would be fitting," writes Pam Kray. | Ted Lawrence had the most radical idea: "Cut off his head and add a spring--he'll be the largest gnome and largest bobble-head!" | |
But the most oft-heard request was "build a bigger gnome!"
To which we say:
When we first created Chomsky we didn't know that we were making the world's largest gnome. We just wanted a nice big gnome to surprise people and welcome folks to our miniature golf course. When we realized we had the world's biggest, we went for the Guinness World Record. Guinness added a category just for us, and awarded us the first largest garden gnome record. Now that the record has passed on, we have the pleasure of knowing that we've inspired gigantic garden gnomes the world over--and we still have our charming, friendly, giant, local garden gnome to welcome people to Homegrown Mini-Golf, Kelder's Farm, and Kerhonkson.

And who's to say that Chomsky, one day, won't find a sweetheart--one who's lots taller than he is?

Homegrown Mini-Golf, a farm-themed miniature golf course landscaped in edible plants, is located on Kelder's Farm, 5755
Route 209 between Accord and Kerhonkson, NY, 845-626-7137. It is the work of artist and author Maria Reidelbach and is designed to promote local agriculture and continue the American tradition of mom-and-pop roadside attractions.
