Welcome to the first edition of the Florida Network of Children's Advocacy Centers Newsletter. This newsletter will be published quarterly. We would also like to direct your attention to our new and improved website. If you have not visited our website recently, please take a minute and review our new website. NCA Approves FNCAC State Chapter Support Grant
On January 12, 2010, the National Children's Alliance informed the FNCAC that it had been selected to receive a $230,000 FY2009 State Chapter Support Grant from the NCA. The NCA approved two of the three components of the FNCAC's 2009 State Chapter Support Grant application. The first component of the approved grant is a $180,000 award to the FNCAC to be used for direct funding to the 18 accredited CAC's in Florida. The second component of the approved grant is a $50,000 award to the FNCAC to be used by the FNCAC for grant administration and chapter infrastructure related to the management of the grant project. The FNCAC has filed legislation for the 2010 legislative session to allow the FNCAC to participate in the motor vehicle registration voluntary contribution program. If succesful, people registering to obtain or renew their motor vehicle tags, will be able to select a "check-off" to donate $1 to the FNCAC. Grand Opening of "Pamela J. Smoak" Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center
The "Pamela J. Smoak" Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center is proud to announce the Grand Opening of its new facility. The Open House Ceremony and Building Dedication was held on November 24, 2009 and approximately 200 people were in attendance including several local dignitaries. What are Children's Advocacy Centers
Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) are community-based, child-focused facilities where children alleged to be victims of abuse are interviewed and receive medical exams, therapy, and other critical services in a non-threatening and child-friendly environment. 7th Annual Multidisciplinary Conference on Child Abuse
The 7th Annual Multidisciplinary Conference on Child Abuse is scheduled for August 4-6, 2010 at the Caribe Royale Orlando. The first multidisciplinary conference was held in 2004, and the annual event has now become a favorite for many professionals, including law enforcement personnel, medical professionals, attorneys, therapists, counselors, and social workers. The next FNCAC Board meeting will be held on February 4, 2010 at the Bridenback Conference Room at Mary Lee's House, 2806 N. Armenia Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
