FOOD THAT'S IN WHEN SCHOOL IS OUT | | Free Home Delivered Meals for Your Children this Summer
Many families rely on school breakfast and lunch to help ease tight budgets. But when summer arrives, and school meals are no longer an option, it becomes harder to make ends meet. This program helps families stretch their resources and ensures that children receive nutritious meals throughout the summer and return each school year ready to learn.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) typically operates at summer open site programs and provides free meals to any child 18 and under who comes to the site. But in rural areas without public transportation, children have difficulty accessing these sites. This summer, Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary & Secondary Education, USDA, the Child Nutrition Outreach Program at Project Bread, and the YMCA Cape Cod are partnering to create a new way for families in the Hyannis, Mashpee and Bourne area to participate in SFSP. The program is similar to the Meals on Wheels program for seniors. We will provide breakfasts and prepared lunches to qualified children at their homes throughout the summer. Meals will be delivered Monday-Friday to families' homes.
Interested? Please call the YMCA Cape Cod at (508) 362-6500 ext. 211 for more information and to see if you qualify.

B.A.T.T.L.E.M.I.N.D. WORKSHOP | |
The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands and the Jonathan Bourne Public Library are pleased to bring an important event to the Cape Cod community. On Tuesday, June 26th from 1pm-3pm Mr. Kevin Lambert of the Massachusetts Department of Veterans' Services will be presenting his B.A.T.T.L.E.M.I.N.D. workshop at the Bourne Library (19 Sandwich Road, Bourne, MA). This workshop provides a better understanding of the psychological and social stressors endured by service members both during their deployment and returning home. Mr. Lambert will also speak to how families and communities can better assist our returning veterans during their transition back to the States.
Mr. Lambert previously presented this workshop in March in Hyannis as part of the Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition's quarterly community event. That presentation was incredibly well-received by those in attendance and we imagine the upcoming June workshop will be just as powerful and informative.
The event is free and open to the public. There is no need to RSVP, but interested persons can call the Samaritans at 508-548-7999 if they have any further questions.
