FOOD THAT'S IN WHEN SCHOOL IS OUT
Free Home Delivered Meals for Your Children this Summer

Many families rely on school breakfast and lunch to help ease tight budgets. But when summer arrives, and school meals are no longer an option, it becomes harder to make ends meet. This program helps families stretch their resources and ensures that children receive nutritious meals throughout the summer and return each school year ready to learn.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) typically operates at summer open site programs and provides free meals to any child 18 and under who comes to the site. But in rural areas without public transportation, children have difficulty accessing these sites.  This summer, Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary & Secondary Education, USDA, the Child Nutrition Outreach Program at Project Bread, and the YMCA Cape Cod are partnering to create a new way for families in the Hyannis, Mashpee and Bourne area to participate in SFSP. The program is similar to the Meals on Wheels program for seniors. We will provide breakfasts and prepared lunches to qualified children at their homes throughout the summer. Meals will be delivered Monday-Friday to families' homes.

Interested? Please call the YMCA Cape Cod at (508) 362-6500 ext. 211 for more information and to see if you qualify.

ELDER ORAL HEALTH SUMMIT
Tuesday June 5, 2012, 9:30 am-2:30 pm at the Hyannis Golf Club.  Sponsored by the Oral Health Excellence Collaborative (OHEC)

Dental disease (also known as tooth decay, cavities and caries) is the most common chronic disease among seniors. It impacts their ability to eat, talk, sleep and socialize. Routine oral hygiene to prevent disease and access to care when decay is found are critical to oral health and overall health. These are the issues we will be addressing at the Elder Oral Health Summit on June 5.

OHEC has secured an excellent training video from the American Dental Association that gives an introduction on the importance of oral health and provides instruction in good oral hygiene--one section for seniors and one for caregivers who help to carry out toothbrushing and/or denture care. This video will allow you to provide this information to groups or one-on-one for seniors anywhere there is a computer or dvd player. Everyone who attends the June 5 Summit will receive a copy of the DVD. Don't miss this opportunity! If you are a senior, live with a senior, take care of a senior, work with seniors or will be a senior, make sure you attend the Summit. Register today at www.ohec.eventbrite.com

Samaritans has expanded the number of sites on the Cape & Islands for their survivor support groups including Falmouth, Hyannis and Nantucket.  These groups honor and respect the needs of the survivors, provide unconditional emotional support, help survivors gain courage and comfort from one another, and deal with a unique grief that is often not understood by others.
