MASS 2-1-1 is a free, confidential, 24/7 information and referral database and hotline for access to health and human services for consumers and providers. Multi-lingual translations are also available. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has designated it as the official point of contact for receiving emergency informat ion during a time of crisis.
MASS 2-1-1 is a project supported by the Barnstable County Department of Human Services in partnership with the Cape & Islands United Way and the Community Health Network Area (CHNA) 27.

RFP - REGIONAL NETWORK TO ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS | |
Request for Proposals:
Barnstable County, through its Chief Procurement Office and on behalf of the Department of Human Services, seeks a qualified contractor to assist the Department in coordination of the "Regional Network to Address Homelessness". The maximum amount available for this contract is $40,000.

FAMILY PANTRY STAFF OPENING | |
The Family Pantry is looking for a Warehouse Supervisor. This is a part time (10-15 hrs/week) managerial position. Responsibilities include coordinating volunteers, managing food ordering and storage, and coordinating maintenance. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are most important. Some computer experience is desired.

GOLF TOURNEY & AUCTION | |
14th Annual Golf Tournament & Dinner Auction to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod, will be held on Monday, August 8th at New Seabury's Ocean Course. Lunch at 11 AM, shotgun start at 12 Noon, dinner & auction starting at 5:00 PM with guest celebrity Susan Wornick of TV5. $250 per player of $50 for just the dinner & auction. Donations in ANY amount gratefully accepted.

NATIONAL HEALTH CONFERENCE | |

The Fifth Annual National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing, and Media brings together academics, public health researchers, and practitioners from Federal and State governments and the private sector and provides dialogue within and across these disciplines. Conference is scheduled for August 9 -11, 2011 and will be held at the Omni Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia.

FUNDING: HOUSING PRESERVATION GRANT PROGRAM | |
The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture announced the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Housing Preservation Grant Program. The Program is available for residents of rural areas whose incomes fall into the low and very low income categories and who need assistance to repair or rehabilitate their homes. An area is considered rural if it is populated with 20,000 people or less. Urban area residents would not be eligible for the program. Nonprofits, local governments, and Native American tribes can receive the grant funding to repair the properties of these residents. Grant funding is not provided to individuals. Deadline to submit the pre-application is August 22, 2011.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE, CHILD WELFARE, AND THE COURTS | |
Putting the Pieces Together for Children and Families: The National Conference on Substance Abuse, Child Welfare, and the Courts will promote multidisciplinary collaborative advances in practice, research, and policy. These advances lead to effective, coordinated, and culturally relevant services for children, youth, and families affected by substance use disorders and child abuse or neglect.
This conference will be held September 14 to 16, 2011 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, National Harbor, MD. Continuing Education Units offered. NPA TOOLKIT FOR COMMUNITY ACTION | |
To support community efforts in the goal of ending health disparities and promoting health equity, the Office of Minority Health has released the new National Partnership for Action Toolkit for Community Action. Through this toolkit, community members will have the information and resources they need to help engage fellow citizens and local media as they spread the word about health disparities and educate others about the impact disparities have in the lives of individuals and the greater impact on society.

SUICIDE BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUPS FOR CHILDREN & TEENS | |
Facilitating Suicide Bereavement Support Groups for Children and Teens Training at the Marriott Courtyard, Boston, MA on December 2-3, 2011.
Presented by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and developed in collaboration with the Dougy Center for Grieving Children & Families, this new hands-on training program is designed for adults who are interested in learning the how-to's of creating and facilitating a peer support group for children and teens ages 5-18 years. The two-day program is conducted by experts in the field of childhood bereavement and experienced support group facilitators, and combines lecture, interactive discussion, and practice activities with individualized feedback. Also applicable for those wishing to facilitate general grief support groups of children and teens. You don't need to be a mental health professional or have experience working with children to attend - you only need an interest in helping children and teens cope with a death. VETERANS CRISIS HOTLINE | |
The VA has rebranded the National Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline to what is now called Veterans Crisis Line. The purpose of the change is to shift the emphasis from "suicide" to "crisis" for Veterans and their families to make that critical first call for help. The Veterans Crisis Line (1-800-273-8255, Press 1) is available 24/7/365 to provide confidential counseling and referrals for Veterans and their families. This is an integrated national outreach effort to increase awareness and use of the Veterans Crisis Line, support and promote broader VA suicide prevention efforts, and promote help-seeking behaviors among Veterans at risk of suicide and other mental health problems.

HEALTHY CONNECTED CAPE COD | | The "Healthy Connected Cape Cod" project promotes opportunities to access good, nutritious food and to share the abundance of this food with neighbors and friends.
Goals: - Support existing programs and practices that encourage happy and healthy eating

- Increase healthy food options at all Cape Cod food pantries
- Promote community-driven advocacy and public education around healthy and happy eating.

SAMARITAN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUPS | | Over 800,000 people worldwide end their lives annually. Seven to ten people -- parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, grandchildren and close friends -- deeply feel the devastation of each loss. That means that approximately 5 million "survivors" are left behind every year.
Samaritans has expanded the number of sites on the Cape & Islands for their survivor support groups including Falmouth, Hyannis and Nantucket. These groups honor and respect the needs of the survivors, provide unconditional emotional support, help survivors gain courage and comfort from one another, and deal with a unique grief that is often not understood by others.

HOMELESSNESS CRISIS HOTLINE | | Serving individuals & families in the communities of Barnstable County, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Staffed by trained homelesness prevention advocates. Immediate local emergency housing, food and transportation available. Referral to the right resources for assistance, assessment and on-going support.
If you or someone you know, are in crisis and have no place to stay tonight, call the Crisis Hotline at 1-888-656-2233 to connect with an experienced advocate who can arrange local overnight emergency housing until the next business day. You will meet with an advocate the following day to help you access available resources and supportive services.
The crisis hotline is a regional innovation pilot project funded by a grant to CACCI by Barnstable County through the Cape & Islands Regional Network to End Homelessness from the Massachusetts Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness.
