MASS 2-1-1 RESOURCE LOCATOR | |
Is your organization listed on 2-1-1? If not, you may be missing out.
MASS 2-1-1 is a free, confidential, 24/7 information and referral database and hotline for access to health and human services for consumers and providers. Multi-lingual translations are also available. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has designated it as the official point of contact for receiving emergency information during a time of crisis.
MASS 2-1-1 is funded by 19 local chapters of the United Way, MEMA and the Executive Office of Health & Human services. Locally the Barnstable County Department of Human Services in partnership with the Cape & Islands United Way is supporting and promoting MASS 2-1-1.

20TH ANNUAL NIGHT AT THE CHEF'S TABLE | |
AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod invites you to the 20th Annual Night at the Chef's Table, an extraordinary evening of culinary excellence on Thursday, June 2nd at 7:00 PM to celebrate those living with HIV/AIDS and recognize the medical progress that has been made since the beginning of the epidemic. MDPH QPR CERTIFICATION TRAINING | |
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Suicide Prevention Program is sponsoring a Train-the-trainer certification training by the nationally recognized QPR Institute. This FREE one-day training is offered to individuals who apply and meet the selection criteria. Participants will be selected to assure an equitable geographic distribution statewide and comprehensive training of gatekeepers who work with different at-risk populations. Training scheduled for June 9, 2011 at the Hoaglund Pincus Conference Center in Shrewsbury, MA.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS DAY | |
The Barnstable Senior Center is hosting their 12th Annual Open House & Community Awareness Day on Friday, June 10th from 12 - 3:00 PM. DOMESTIC & SEXUAL VIOLENCE WORKSHOP | |
The Massachusetts Rural Domestic & Sexual Violence Project is hosting a FREE day-long interactive workshop for rural domestic and sexual violence providers and other human service workers titled: "Supporting and Empowering Immigrant Survivors of Domestic & Sexual Violence in Rural Massachusetts". Workshop will be held on June 14th from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM at the Everywoman's Center, UMASS Amherst, 180 Infirmary Way, New Africa House, Amherst, MA.

SUPPORTING OUR MILITARY FAMILIES | |
The needs of Veterans and military families can be unique and it is important to be aware of the services in place to address those needs. The presentation on Thursday, June 16th from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Courtyard by Marriott, 707 Iyannough Rd., Hyannis will provide information on the deployment cycle, it's effects on children and an overview of the wide array of benefits and services offered to Veterans and their families in Massachusetts. AGING WITH DIGNITY CONFERENCE | |
AdCare Institute presents the Aging with Dignity Conference on June 8, 2011, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA. The conference will offers a range of timely topics on substance use and related issues affecting older adults. In addition to problem drinking, gambling, medication management and smoking the conference will take a look at related issues of great concern such as hoarding and difficulty with driving.

The conference fee is $45 which includes CEU's for a variety of disciplines; certificates of attendance will be available. A limited number of scholarships are also offered. CAMP FOR YOUTH SUICIDE SURVIVORS | |
This FREE one-day event is for kids and teens (ages 7-17 yrs) that have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver to suicide. There is also a separate parent/guardian program that will take place at the same time and location. Camp will be held on June 25th from 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM at Shore Country Day School, 545 Cabot Street in Beverly, MA. To register click here. FAMILY LAW WORKSHOP | |
"Everything you wanted to know about Family Law but were Afraid to Ask" workshop scheduled for June 21, 2011, 6 - 8 PM at the Wellfleet Senior Center, 715 Old King's Highway. Co-hosted by Attorneys Holly Harney and Elisa Zawadzkas. Time will include Q&A with attendees so participants are encouraged to come with a list of questions. Those seeking legal advice regarding any aspect of Family Law are encouraged to attend this workshop prior to consulting an attorney or setting up a legal clinic at WE CAN. COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE | |
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) at the Community Green in Sandwich is a project of Housing Assistance Corporation. Through the CSA program you can get weekly bags of fresh vegetables, flowers and herbs from the farm. Membership for the season costs $650 for 20 weeks. BCBS FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT | |
Funding opportunity from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation: Connecting Consumers with Care. This grant program will provide two-year grants to Massachusetts community-based organizations, community health centers and select hospital-based programs. The goal is to help consumers enroll in and maintain access to coverage, collaborate with advocacy organizations to address system-level barriers, and educate and equip consumers to utilize the health care system more effectively and appropriately.
Deadlines: June 10, 2011 - Letter of Inquiry due. June 30, 2011: Organizations being invited to submit a full proposal will be contacted. HEALTHY FOOD FINANCING INITIATIVE | |
For the first time ever, the federal government is requesting proposals for Healthy Food Financing Initiative (HFFI) grants and loans to help open new fresh food outlets -- supermarkets, farmers markets, and expanded convenience stores in low-income and underserved communities. $10 million will be available from the Department of Health and Human Services for this program. COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION GRANTS | |
$102 million in funding available for up to 75 communities through the Community Transformation Grants Program. Created by the Affordable Care Act, these grants are aimed at helping communities implement projects proven to reduce chronic disease, violence and injury, and improve mental health and equity. This round of funding increases the grant cycle to a five-year period which will allow communities more time to tailor and implement strategies, engage communities and ultimately shift norms around healthy eating and physical activity.

ADLIFE HEALTHCARE, LLC | |
Adlife Health Care LLC is a MassHealth Certified Vendor, sponsoring a Group Adult Foster Care Program in individual homes since 2005. They provide a maximum of 7 hours a week of home care services to individuals ages 22 and older. For MassHealth or CommonHealth Plan members (or individuals eligible for MassHealth) the service is at no charge.
Eligibility for the program requires the assistance and/or supervision of at least one Activity of Daily Living. VETERANS CRISIS HOTLINE | |
The VA has rebranded the National Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline to what is now called Veterans Crisis Line. The purpose of the change is to shift the emphasis from "suicide" to "crisis" for Veterans and their families to make that critical first call for help. The Veterans Crisis Line (1-800-273-8255, Press 1) is available 24/7/365 to provide confidential counseling and referrals for Veterans and their families. This is an integrated national outreach effort to increase awareness and use of the Veterans Crisis Line, support and promote broader VA suicide prevention efforts, and promote help-seeking behaviors among Veterans at risk of suicide and other mental health problems.

HEALTHY CONNECTED CAPE COD | | The "Healthy Connected Cape Cod" project promotes opportunities to access good, nutritious food and to share the abundance of this food with neighbors and friends.
Goals: - Support existing programs and practices that encourage happy and healthy eating
- Increase awareness of and participation in food-centered activities
- Increase healthy food options at all Cape Cod food pantries
- Promote community-driven advocacy and public education around healthy and happy eating.

SAMARITAN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUPS | | Over 800,000 people worldwide end their lives annually. Seven to ten people -- parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, grandchildren and close friends -- deeply feel the devastation of each loss. That means that approximately 5 million "survivors" are left behind every year.
Samaritans has expanded the number of sites on the Cape & Islands for their survivor support groups including Falmouth, Hyannis and Nantucket. These groups honor and respect the needs of the survivors, provide unconditional emotional support, help survivors gain courage and comfort from one another, and deal with a unique grief that is often not understood by others.

HOMELESSNESS CRISIS HOTLINE | | Serving individuals & families in the communities of Barnstable County, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Staffed by trained homelesness prevention advocates. Immediate local emergency housing, food and transportation available. Referral to the right resources for assistance, assessment and on-going support.
If you or someone you know, are in crisis and have no place to stay tonight, call the Crisis Hotline at 1-888-656-2233 to connect with an experienced advocate who can arrange local overnight emergency housing until the next business day. You will meet with an advocate the following day to help you access available resources and supportive services.
The crisis hotline is a regional innovation pilot project funded by a grant to CACCI by Barnstable County through the Cape & Islands Regional Network to End Homelessness from the Massachusetts Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness.
