HHS CENTER OPENS IN HYANNIS
Executive Office of Health & Human Services (EOHHS) Secretary Dr. JudyAnn Bigby officially opened the state's first Health & Human Services (HHS) Center at 181 North St. in Hyannis on June 29th.  The reconstructed building (formerly Bob's Store) now houses the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC), the Department of Mental Health (DMH), the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) and the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) in the same building.  Secretary Bigby noted that this HHS Center will serve as a model for future centers around the state.  Fifteen HHS centers are planned for Massachusetts.

By having all of these service providers in one location, consumers have the ability to see more than one service provider in a single visit, saving time and transportation costs.  Providers from different agencies can easily connect with each other to coordinate services for mutual consumers more quickly than they could when the agencies were separate locations.

CAPE COD VOLUNTEER INITIATIVE
Cape Cod Foundation is proud to introduce an exciting new resource for non-profits: CAPE COD VOLUNTEERS.  The vision of Cape Cod Volunteers is to create a network of organizations and opportuities that informs, inspires, and engages people of all ages and backgrounds to strengthen our community through volunteering.  Cape Cod Volunteers links local people with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

Please visit our new website and register your organization at www.capecodvolunteers.org.  It will take 15-30 minutes to create a thorough profile for your organization.  Once your profile is created you can post as many volunteer opportunities as you like, specify what kind of volunteer would best fit your organization's needs, how many volunteers you need, how often you need them and what kind of skills would be helpful.   You can also solicit in-kind donations, list board openings and interview potential candidates.
Whether you need volunteers for day-to-day tasks, help with events, or to share their expertise, volunteeers are an invaluable resource.  The more organizations that post opportunities, the more effective the network will be and the more the community will benefit.  Since our public release in July,  more than 1700 prospective volunteers (about 29/day) have visited www.capecodvolunteers.org to peruse the more than 100 volunteer opportunities listed.  Register today to start recruiting them.

SAMARITAN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUPS
Over 800,000 people worldwide end their lives annually.  Seven to ten people -- parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, grandchildren and close friends -- deeply feel the devastation of each loss.

That means that approximately 5 million "survivors" are left behind every year.

Samaritans has expanded the number of sites on the Cape & Islands for their survivor support groups including Falmouth, Hyannis and Nantucket.  These groups honor and respect the needs of the survivors, provide unconditional emotional support, help survivors gain courage and comfort from one another, and deal with a unique grief that is often not understood by others.

For more information contact the Samaritans office at Tel: 508/548-7999
