SWIMMING SAFETY | | Summertime means water time for many families. Whether it's the pool, beach, water park or lakefront the YMCA Cape Cod reminds Cape residents "It's Safety First". The Y's advise to all adults and children is to learn how to swim. It's never too late! Other safety tips include: Only swim where a lifeguard is on duty; never swim alone. Adults should constantly watch children in and near the water - no one watches your child better than you. Inexperienced swimmers should take precaution and wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device when in, on or around the water. Children who are beginners should swim within arm's reach of an adult.
The YMCA Cape Cod teaches safety & confidence in the water through a variety of fun programs. New swim program sessions begin the beginning of August. To learn more or sign up for the YMCA Cape Cod's water safety programs contact Jeff Falk at Tel: 508/362-6500 X103 or by email at jfalk@ymcacapecod.org

CAPE COD VOLUNTEER INITIATIVE | |
Cape Cod Foundation is proud to introduce an exciting new resource for non-profits: CAPE COD VOLUNTEERS. The vision of Cape Cod Volunteers is to create a network of organizations and opportuities that informs, inspires, and engages people of all ages and backgrounds to strengthen our community through volunteering. Cape Cod Volunteers links local people with meaningful volunteer opportunities.
Please visit our new website and register your organization at www.capecodvolunteers.org. It will take 15-30 minutes to create a thorough profile for your organization. Once your profile is created you can post as many volunteer opportunities as you like, specify what kind of volunteer would best fit your organization's needs, how many volunteers you need, how often you need them and what kind of skills would be helpful. You can also solicit in-kind donations, list board openings and interview potential candidates. Whether you need volunteers for day-to-day tasks, help with events, or to share their expertise, volunteeers are an invaluable resource. The more organizations that post opportunities, the more effective the network will be and the more the community will benefit. The website will be introduced to the public in mid to late June.

SAMARITAN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUPS | | Over 800,000 people worldwide end their lives annually. Seven to ten people -- parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, grandchildren and close friends -- deeply feel the devastation of each loss.
That means that approximately 5 million "survivors" are left behind every year.
Samaritans has expanded the number of sites on the Cape & Islands for their survivor support groups including Falmouth, Hyannis and Nantucket. These groups honor and respect the needs of the survivors, provide unconditional emotional support, help survivors gain courage and comfort from one another, and deal with a unique grief that is often not understood by others.
For more information contact the Samaritans office at Tel: 508/548-7999
