SUICIDE PREVENTION COMMUNITY FORUM | |
The Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition invites you to attend a community forum to discuss suicide awareness and prevention and find out what the Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition is doing to raise awareness on this issue that impacts everyone. Elected officials and declared candidates have been invited to be part of this community-wide discussion.

SENIOR ELDER REPORT | | The Department of Human Services has released a new publication Cape Cod Senior and Elder Residents in the 21st Century. The report is an analysis of the Cape's demographics and data collected in the annual Monitoring the Human Condition study. The findings show there are 81,000 permanent year round residents of Barnstable County who are age 55 or older. Barnstable County Department of Human Services has conducted community-based research for the past 15 years and promotes the health and social well-being of County residents through regional efforts designed to improve coordination and efficiency of human services. NANTUCKET SUPPORT GROUP | | SAFE HARBOR, a support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. Provides an opportunity for dealing with a unique grief that is not often understood by others. It honors and respects the needs of those who have lost someone to suicide and provides unconditional emotional support and helps survivors gain strength and courage from one another.
Group will meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month beginning June 8, 2010. It is free, confidential and on-going. For more details call Tel: 508/325-0048.

SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM | | FOOD THAT'S IN, WHEN SCHOOL IS OUT!
Kids 18 and under can enjoy FREE LUNCH and activities at sites in Hyannis all summer long! The Summer Food Service Program is a safe, fun way for children to get nutritious meals when school is not in session and it's easy to participate since no registration or identification is required.

NSTAR'S DEBT FORGIVENESS PROGRAM | | New program offered by NSTAR for low income customers to pay off their old arrearages for gas and/or electric utility bills. NSTAR will forgive past due balances over a period of time if customers pay a budgeted bill each month on time. Eligibility guidelines do apply. CVS OFFERS FUNDING | | CVS Drugstore Chain Offers $25 Million to Fund Children's Disability Programs
QUICK SUMMARY: Over the next five years, CVS Caremark All Kids Can program is making $25 million available to make life easier for children with disabilities. Through this program, CVS will support nonprofit organizations that provide innovative programs and services in local communities focused on helping children with disabilities to learn, play and succeed in life. The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust awarded $6.3 million in grants to nonprofit organizations across the country in 2009. DEADLINE: Oct. 31. FUNDING FOCUS: The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust focuses primarily on supporting charitable organizations that are making a difference in the lives of children with disabilities. Resources are also allocated to help support organizations focused on providing healthcare to the uninsured. ELIGIBILITY:Community-based nonprofits.

24/7 HOMELESSNESS CRISIS HOTLINE |
|
Serving individuals & families in the communities of Barnstable County, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Staffed by trained homelesness prevention advocates. Immediate local emergency housing, food and transportation available. Referral to the right resources for assistance, assessment and on-going support.
If you or someone you know, are in crisis and have no place to stay tonight, call the Crisis Hotline at 1-888-656-2233 to connect with an experienced advocate who can arrange local overnight emergency housing until the next business day. You will meet with an advocate the following day to help you access available resources and supportive services.
The crisis hotline is a regional innovation pilot project funded by a grant to CACCI by Barnstable County through the Cape & Islands Regional Network to End Homelessness from the Massachusetts Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness.

MASS 2-1-1 is a free, confidential, 24/7 information and referral database and hotline for access to health and human services for consumers and providers. Multi-lingual translations are also available. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has designated it as the official point of contact for receiving emergency information during a time of crisis.
MASS 2-1-1 is funded by 19 local chapters of the United Way, MEMA and the Executive Office of Health & Human services. Locally the Barnstable County Department of Human Services in partnership with the Cape & Islands United Way are supporting and marketing MASS 2-1-1.
