CAPE COD VOLUNTEER INITIATIVE
Cape Cod Foundation is proud to introduce an exciting new resource for non-profits: CAPE COD VOLUNTEERS.  The vision of Cape Cod Volunteers is to create a network of organizations and opportuities that informs, inspires, and engages people of all ages and backgrounds to strengthen our community through volunteering.  Cape Cod Volunteers links local people with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

Please visit our new website and register your organization at www.capecodvolunteers.org.  It will take 15-30 minutes to create a thorough profile for your organization.  Once your profile is created you can post as many volunteer opportunities as you like, specify what kind of volunteer would best fit your organization's needs, how many volunteers you need, how often you need them and what kind of skills would be helpful.   You can also solicit in-kind donations, list board openings and interview potential candidates.
Whether you need volunteers for day-to-day tasks, help with events, or to share their expertise, volunteeers are an invaluable resource.  The more organizations that post opportunities, the more effective the network will be and the more the community will benefit.  The website will be introduced to the public in mid to late June.

SAMARITAN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUPS
Over 800,000 people worldwide end their lives annually.  Seven to ten people -- parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, grandchildren and close friends -- deeply feel the devastation of each loss.

That means that approximately 5 million "survivors" are left behind every year.

Samaritans has expanded the number of sites on the Cape & Islands for their survivor support groups including Falmouth, Hyannis and Nantucket.  These groups honor and respect the needs of the survivors, provide unconditional emotional support, help survivors gain courage and comfort from one another, and deal with a unique grief that is often not understood by others.

For more information contact the Samaritans office at Tel: 508/548-7999

FY2011 FEDERAL BUDGET
How does the President's budget advance equity? It invests in building communities of opportunity across America, breaks down traditional barriers between agencies, and focuses on results. But it also proposes money behind those principles:
$345 million for a Healthy Food Financing Initiative
       $210 million for Promise Neighborhoods
       $688 million for Sustainable Communities
$266 million for the Corporation for National Community Service
Of course, the road to an inclusive and sustained economic recovery is a long one, and cannot be achieved with a single budget proposal. But if passed by Congress, the President's budget would help fight poverty and promote shared prosperity for all Americans. Click here to view an analysis by Policy Link of the budget.
