March is National Nutrition Month
Nantucket Cottage Hospital offers nutrition services to both
inpatients and outpatients. Our registered dietician offers nutrition counseling for adherence to medically indicated diets as well as weight loss, stress management and overall wellness.

National Nutrition Month focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound habits for eating and physical activity. According to the American Dietetic Association, get your plate in shape with these simple tricks:
  • Make half your plate fruits and vegetables
  • Make at least half your grains whole
  • Switch to fat-free or low-fat milk
  • Vary your protein choices
  • Cut back on sodium and empty calories from solid fats and added sugars
  • Enjoy your foods but eat less
  • Be physically active in your own way
Contact NCH's Nutrition Department to speak to our registered dietician, or make an appointment at 508-825-8141   Berries

Grateful Patient Says Thanks

Nantucket resident Trisha Murphy expressed her gratitude to the NCH emergency room staff for saving her husband's life in Nantucket's Inquirer and Mirror newspaper of March 1, 2012.

"First of all we both want to give the [Nantucket Cottage Hospital] medical staff present that night the utmost praise for their performance. If it wasn't for them my husband would not be with us anymore. I witnessed all they did that night and I have nothing but immense praise for them all."
TRISHA MURPHY

Light It Up Blue
To Celebrate World Autism Awareness Day

On Monday, April 2, Nantucket Cottage Hospital will once again "light it up blue" to help shine a bright spotlight on the public health crisis of autism and improve the future for everyone who struggles with the disorder. Help us raise autism awareness by wearing blue to join us in this initiative. Light it up blue

"Light It Up Blue" is sponsored by Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization dedicated to: funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

To participate in "Light It Up Blue" in celebration of World Autism Day, visit the Autism Speaks website. To learn more about events scheduled throughout April for Nantucket families living with autism and other disabilities, please contact Kim Horyn, Director of the Nantucket Autism Speaks Resource Center, at 646-341-3043, or visit the Nantucket Resource Center website.
