PTAN Issues Trigger Enrollment Letters
Recently physicians have been receiving letters from their carriers stating that they do not have valid enrollment with that carrier. Provider transaction account numbers (PTAN) are often used for authentication purposes by your carrier, so make sure the PTAN is associated with the provider's National Provider Identify (NPI).

Physician Tranistion Factors to Consider
According to practice consultants and administrators, we will see a large increase of veteran physicians retiring in the coming months. Specific challenges will arise for practices who bring new doctors to replace the leaving ones.

Ohio Requires Electronic Payments
The Ohio Medical Association has announced that effective October 16, 2010, Ohio law regulating health plans is requiring all providers who send claims electronically to be setup for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) otherwise known as direct deposit. Providers must contact each individual insurance company to setup the EFT account.

Transition to 5010
ECP is committed to servicing our healthcare providers in helping them meet the transaction requirements of all payers, government and commercial. When requirements of the payers change, ECP dedicates resources to make sure the transition is smooth, assuring your transactions continue to be processed accurately and timely.

A format change is mandated to be put in place for all government and commercial payers by the deadline of December 31, 2011. This seems like a long time away, but there is a lot of development and testing work before it can be implemented. The new transaction format is called HIPAA 5010.

ECP is currently in the development/testing stages with the insurance payers. However, having providers test with ECP before the final 5010 migration is a vital step. To demonstrate our commitment in helping our clients meet their requirements, we are developing a "testing schedule" where you will get the time and attention you need to assure your transactions are correct.

Further information will be sent to you in the coming months, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and information about scheduling your testing.

What you can do now:
While ECP works with the payers on format changes, any biller in your organization should start watching communication from your software company, payers and the industry about HIPAA 5010. The payers may change some required data from you, so please keep your eyes and ears aware.

ECP is dedicated to effectively make this transition alongside its healthcare providers!

ECP is proactively preparing for the transition to 5010. In January of 2011 ECP will begin accepting test files. Please contact us at ecp5010@4ecp.com to schedule your test file transmissions for January 2011 or if you have any questions concerning 5010.

Business Associate Agreement Needed for HIPPA Compliance

The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) requires compliance with new provisions by all Covered Entities and their Business Associates. Therefore, ECP must update all Business Associate documents in accordance with these changes.
