Greetings!
Last Thursday began my kid's "official" summer vacation. For them it's a time to be free and live by no schedule. It's when they "believe" they can play endless hours of computer games and eat bottomless bags of Doritos! This may go on for about a week but then they naturally get back on a schedule, one that nurtures their mind, body, and spirit. Each day covers the basics; shower, food, exercise, rest, family time, and activities. They thrive on this type of routine. Just as our children benefit from a mind, body, spirit approach, our seniors do as well. The problem is that they are not always able to follow this routine due to limitations they may have. Our caregivers are able to provide them with the personal assistance they need in order to achieve and maintain a holistic approach to wellness.
Loving Arms Elder Care is also expanding its services to provide for two other very important facets. The first of these is respite care - providing care for the caregiver, and the other is transportation to local events and activities. Please read more about these services in the articles below.
I hope your upcoming summer months are full of rest, relaxation, and healthy living!

Keeping Your Mind Active Respite Care
It is very easy for caregivers to become so involved in the care of their loved one that they forget to take care of their own needs and give themselves some time off in order to renew their own mind, body, and spirit.
If you are providing the care for a loved one, why not make time for yourself by taking a week or more to simply recharge! During that time, our carefully selected caregivers can provide 24 hour care for your loved one. We not only provide for their physical needs, but also provide companionship, activities, transportation, meals, etc.
While we certainly cannot take your place in the life of your family, we would welcome the opportunity to "adopt" them into the Loving Arms family and provide you with the opportunity to take a break and come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!

Keeping Your Body Healthy Dehydration in Senior Adults Dehydration is a major cause for hospitalization among senior adults and it can be life-threatening. Elderly citizens are more susceptible to dehydration due to less fluid content in the body. Dehydration occurs when a person loses more water than they take in because it takes an adequate amount of fluid for the body to function properly. Even mild dehydration can affect a person's health, especially if he/she already has cardiac or renal problems.
Dehydration sometimes creates only small telltale signs while having a big effect on the body. Very often, the signs of dehydration are more or less similar to dementia and Alzheimer's symptoms. If allowed to continue unchecked, dehydration may lead to falls, stroke, renal failure, and death. For more information on the signs, symptoms, and ways to avoid dehydration, please visit our website.
If any of these symptoms is observed in an elderly person, it is advisable to consult and seek advice from a qualified physician.
