GRMS Principal, Beverly Gordon receives the Energy Star plaque from Al Crutchfield, SJCSD Energy Management Director.

Al Crutchfield, Energy Management Director for the St. Johns County School District recently presented the 2010 Energy Star Award to Gamble Rogers Middle School Principal, Beverly Gordon in recognition of their exemplary energy savings over the past year. The Department of Energy/ EPA rates sites from 1 to 100 and a site must be rated at 75 or above to be eligible for the Energy Star rating. Gamble Rogers Middle School, when compared to other schools of similar size from across the country, scored an 81. First I would like to say thanks for all the parent cooperation in morning with the congestive traffic. I try to get everyone in prior to 7:50am, and to do this you may get sent to the back bus loop to relieve the back up. Also at this time I would like to inform you of a traffic law that pertains to any police officer or sheriff's deputy who is directing or conducting traffic control in the intersection or roadway.
Florida Statue 316.072(3) Obedience to and effect of traffic laws.
It is unlawful and a misdemeanor of the second degree for any person to willfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any law enforcement officer traffic crash investigation. This statue applies to traffic control by an officer in the roadway. This will be written on a citation and it requires a criminal court date. Please adhere to the following requests to prevent getting a citation:

        (1) Do not continue to roll into the intersection while I have the hand signal up to stop. Please stay within a safe distance from me.

        (2) If I have my back turned and I am not giving a signal in your direction, STOP with in a safe distance from me. Do not proceed through the intersection. I cannot see behind me and I may step in that direction in the road not knowing and get struck.

        (3) If you are exciting from the front of the school do not pull out in front of cars coming from the back, I will direct you when it is safe to enter the roadway and make the right turn out.

Thank you for your assistance with this and I wish everyone a safe Holiday Season!

 Screening 1

Recently, students from the Pedro Menendez High School/ Flagler Hospital Academy of Health and Medical Careers used their developing medical skills to help with the sixth grade health screenings at Gamble Rogers Middle School.  An annual event coordinated by the St. Johns County Health Department and the St. Johns County School District, the screenings are an effective tool to detect potential problems with vision, hearing and scoliosis in aSCREENING 3ll students who participate.  Normally, the screenings are coordinated by school nurses and health technicians with the assistance of parent volunteers, but this year, for the first time, Health Academy students were on hand to help facilitate the screenings.  Over 200 students were screened at GRMS and the process went quickly and smoothly with the help of the Academy students.

"Working with the 6th graders made me feel like a RN already, "said Brittany Perry, a tenth grade Health Academy student.

Another sophomore, Da'shia Hollimon agreed, "Being a nurse has always been my dream and being with the 6th graders moved me one step closer."
