What's an absolute return manager? | |
What does it mean when we say someone is an "absolute return manager?" In short, it means the manager seeks to make a positive return every year. So what's different between that and every other manager in the world - surely, no one is trying to lose money?
Unlike traditional equity managers who can only make money when the equities they are invested in moves up, absolute managers try to produce a positive return regardless of the directions of the financial markets. Absolute return strategies have been employed by many hedge fund managers, and in recent years have become more accessible to individual investors. Learn more.

We've had a lot of changes around here.
First, Mike Jones, CFP, MBA was promoted to president of JSW Financial. In his expanded role, he's focusing on client service and daily operations while continuing to serve as your trusted financial advisor and planner. Meanwhile, we're thrilled to welcome Sara Bohn, CFP, CLU, CLTC, MBA to our team. She's a Certified Financial Planner with a solid background in comprehensive financial strategies and strong client relationships. Joel's Corner: Current Market/Economy Comments |
- Corporate profits are one of the highest in history, due to increasing business on low wage costs. Still a good sign.
- Economy still shaky, but progressing steadily.
- Greece debt still major concern of international markets, but Euro improving.
- China has some manufacturing leaving country due to increasing labor costs.
- Commodity prices are decreasing, allowing stock prices to edge up.
- Summary:
- Market is still in a holding pattern before starting another upward move.
- Economy picking up slightly with consumers cautiously optimistic.
