Hip Flexor Stretch

The Body Blurb

Your Monthly Guide to Looking and Feeling Better

 April 2010

Dear Omega Client,

Each month we will bring to you a simple stretch that can easily be incoporated into your daily routine to help you look and feel better.  Use caution when performing the stretches.  If you have any abnormal pain or discomfort during the stretch, or if you are currently experiencing symptoms in the area associated with the stretch, discontinue the stretch.

As always, you are welcome to call us today for a FREE CONSULATION!

This month is the "Lat Stretch".

The "Lat Stretch"

How many people do you see walking down the street with rounded shoulders or a slumped posture?  One of the main reasons for this is tight latisimus dorsi muscles, commonly known as "lats".  Tight lats, along with tight chest muscles, will round the shoulders, predisposing us to neck pain, mid-back pain, and nerve problems.  This stretch will help to elongate these muscles, preventing pain and injury along the way.

The "Lat Stretch"
Lat Stretch
Stand with your feet shoulder width apart.  Take one hand and grab your opposite hand over top/behind your head.  Pull your elbow towards your head.  In this case, Dr, K is pulling his left arm to his right.  He should feel the stretch on the left side of his torso.  For an added stretch, you can lean your body slightly into the stretch as well (in this case Dr. K would lean to his right).

Hold for 30-60 seconds, switch sides, and repeat frequently throughout the day or whenever you feel tension or tightness.

We hope this Body Blurb was helpful to you.  Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,

Josh Bross, DC, MS, CSCS
