If you have any abnormal pain or discomfort during the stretch, or if you are currently experiencing symptoms in the area associated with the stretch, discontinue the stretch.

The "Neck & Upper Trap Stretch"
We all tend to sit for prolonged periods of time. Whether in front of the computer, the car, in class, or watching tv, this position tends to round our posture and causes tight muscles, predisposing us to injury and pain. This stretch helps to elongate the muscles that tend to get tight at the base of our neck, allowing you to focus less on your neck pain and more on important things! |

To perform this stretch, sit at the edge of a chair. To stretch the left side of your neck, take your left arm and grab the bottom of the chair. Take your right arm and place two fingers on the left side of your head. Lean your body slightly to the right and pull with your two fingers on your head gently to the right. You should feel a stretch from your neck to your shoulder on the left.
You can change the angle of where you pull to change where you feel the stretch.
Hold for 30-60 seconds and repeat frequently throughout the day or whenever you feel tension or tightness. |
