After an unusually long, cool and wet spring, the sun has (mostly) reappeared, and it seems that summer has finally arrived.
During the first part of 2011, Owens Healthcare team riders participated in a mix of mountain, cyclocross and road events, along with a mix of off the bike activities.
We are happy to be no longer wearing jackets and armwarmers, having dry clothes and trails, and are looking forward to sweating through the Redding summer.
We hope you enjoy this update from the OH Cycling team. Have a great summer!

| Team Happenings
The Owens Healthcare Cycling Team has had a busy and varied spring racing season.
On the road, Jonz Norine, Todd Dodds, Mike Simpson,
Bill Reuss and Adam Pressman participated in the
Chico Stage Race, with Jonz finishing 7th Overall in
a high-powered Masters 35+ 12/3 field.
<-- Big Ring Bill Reuss time-trialin' in style!
On the dirt, Owens Healthcare was a major sponsor of the always popular Shasta Lemurian and Humbug Hurryup races. Top finishers included Paul Lennon, 2nd Masters, and Todd Dodds, 3rd Single Speed, at Lemurian, and Brandon Dillard, 3rd Pro Open at Hurryup. Brandon also finished 9th at the California State Championships and qualified for Nationals in mountain biking. Way to go, Brandon!
In cross-over events, Paul placed 2nd Overall in the Mt. Shasta Quadrathlon and 4th Solo in the Whiskeytown Duathlon. Jordan Anderson was the 1st Junior in the Duathlon despite breaking a chain and running over 4 miles of the bike leg.
In the Blazing Saddles Race Series, Brandon Dillard won all four races in the Expert Class en route to the Overall Championship, with Paul and Jordan taking turns finishing 2nd and 3rd.
Brandon and Jordan finished 1st and 2nd
overall in the 18 & Under category; Bill
Reuss and Tom Dillard went 1-2 in the 35-44 group; and among 45-54 year olds, Paul was
1st and Adam Pressman 3rd.

Friends of the Team Happenings
At a slightly higher competitive level, it was great to follow the recent racing exploits of our two favorite northern California pros.
Former local Redding boy made good Chris Jones continues his solid professional cycling career, now as a member of top US squad United Healthcare Pro Cycling. Chris participated in United Healthcare's European
campaign this spring, and was a key team member
in the Tour of California, his hometown race. Top
individual results for Chris this year include 5th in a
mountainous stage of the Tour de Langkawi and
12th in the USA Cycling Pro Road Championships.
Congratulations Chris!

Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack), who in previous years
has participated in the famous Wednesday Night
World Championships in Redding, is soon heading to
the Tour de France as one of Team Shack's leaders.
Earlier this year, the three-time defending champion returned to the Tour of California, ultimately finishing second to his on-form RadioShack teammate Chris Horner. And very recently, Levi's outstanding time
trial performance on the last day gave him the victory in the Tour de Suisse, possibly the biggest win of his career to date. Best wishes for le Tour, Levi!

Featured Rider
Brandon Dillard first raced his mountain
bike at the Spring Thaw in Ashland, OR in
2007. Without any real training, he finished
3rd in his division, and was hooked.
Since then, Brandon has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments on the bike: MTB Nationals competitor since 2008, California State Champion (Kenda Cup Series) and selection to attend the National Junior Development Team in 2009, 13th at Cyclocross Nationals in 2010, 5th at Sea Otter, 2010 Wed. Night Worlds Champion, 2011 Blazing Saddles Race Series Champion, and much more! Brandon's goals for this year include top 10 at MTB Nationals and top 5 at CX Nationals. He plans to race in college, and hopes to eventually race as a professional. Brandon thanks his mom and dad for getting him to all his races, the Owens Healthcare Cycling Team for all its support, and for race expenses, and his coach Steve Tam for helping him become faster and enjoy training. |
