Dear Friends of the Team,
With the 2010 cycling season well underway, it is time for a new edition of the Owens Healthcare Cycling newsletter.
Despite an unusually long, rainy spring, heat and sunshine have finally arrived. The team is off to a successful start this year, with a fun mix of mountain, road and cyclocross events already completed.
As we head through summer, we will continue doing the traditional Wednesday Night Race (uh, Ride), training on the roads and trails, racing here and there, and generally just enjoying being out on our bikes whenever possible.
Come on out and join us sometime!

Team Happenings
In early May, a group of OH riders enjoyed gorgeous spring weather and the sights and history of the Redding area by completing the Shasta Jamboree Century. After an early morning start, we were "just noodling" as we passed Shasta Dam, historic Old Shasta, and the Old-West town of Cottonwood. Adam, John, Jonz, Mark, Mike and Todd, did the whole thing, Bill rode part of it, and a guest appearance was made by Carson.
At the Ashland Spring Thaw Mountain Bike Festival, Paul won the Old Guys (1st in Cat. 1
Men 45+), with Adam finishing 5th in that category. Zack won the Youngsters (1st in Cat. 2 Junior 18 and under). Todd and Jonz were 4th and 5th, respectively, in the "Riders Not Smart Enough to Have More Than One Gear on Their Bikes" category. John worked hard to put Paul in a winning position, and along with Bill, ended up in the top 20. Mark barely survived the "Injured Roadies in the Wrong Race" category, and Mike coughed up most of a lung on the climb, then "noodled" past most of the field on the downhill.
On May 19, several Owens Healthcare team members braved
the unseasonable cold and rainy conditions to participate in the Ride of Silence, in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. Thanks to Redding Velo and Keith Ritter for organizing the Redding event. The Ride of Silence had over 300 events worldwide in 2010. In the Blazing Saddles Series, Paul was 1st, Brandon
2nd and Jordan 3rd in the series.
Adam won the 12 Hours of Weaverville (Vet/Expert Solo).
And a shout out to former team members Dave Allbrecht and Matt Ream for their recent victories in Masters 1/2/3 races.
Congratulations to all!

Featured Rider
Paul Lennon has been a member of the OH Cycling Team since its
inception in 2004 and cylist for many years prior to joining the team. Paul's ability as a cylist has inched up each year since he has been on the team. His teammates fear that someday he may get serious and start training and then we will all suffer. You always know when Paul is going to pass you during a race because you hear a loud "here comes Grandpa". Paul always leads out the Blue Train when it hits the dirt, and is a frequent winner of the Vet / Expert class in mountain bike and cyclocross races. Even though Paul likes to drop the hammer, he is always willing to work with his teamates or other cyclists to improve their riding skills. When the snow permits, Paul can often be found skiing in the backcountry around Mt. Shasta.
Check out Paul doing some cross training on Tele boards this last winter:
a master craftsman who has built or remodeled the homes of most of his teammates (and lightened their wallets a bit in the process). His company, PBL Designs, has been a longtime sponsor of the team. Paul's family includes his partner Michelle and dog Zoe. |
