Clean Water. Healthy Fish. Happy People.

It's time to Just BLUE® It!

It's Lake Champlain versus the Nation as LCI's BLUE® certification program is one of six finalists for the grand prize of $25,000 in a highly competitive national contest. Sponsored by River Network and MillerCoors, the contest will determine a winner based on whichever project gets the most votes.  The votes of every homeowner, renter, camp owner, angler, paddler, boater, swimmer, and Champlain enthusiast in and out of the Lake Champlain basin is needed to win funding for this important, fun, and effective project.

If won, LCI and the Burlington community will certify homes as watershed friendly, or BLUE®, throughout the city of Burlington to reduce water pollution runoff (a.k.a. stormwater) from our homes, lawns, and driveways. This will help reduce beach closures, prevent algae blooms, and improve boating, paddling, and fishing.  The Lake Champlain region economy will even experience a boost as the health of the lake improves.

Lake Champlain is up against big cities like Cincinnati, Ohio and huge rivers like the Mississippi River, so it is important for everyone who lives near or loves Lake Champlain to vote and spread the word about this contest.  Voting starts today, Tuesday, February 21, and ends Monday, March 19, 2012.
