Winooski Angler Charged with Taking Endangered Sturgeon
| On July 2nd, Dhan Gurung, 27, of Winooski was arrested and charged with illegally taking and possessing an endangered lake sturgeon he caught while fishing on Otter Creek in Ferrrisburgh. Comments Sought on Revised Cleanup Plan for Burlington's Pine Street Canal Superfund Site
| This summer, EPA will be continuing its work at the Pine Street Canal Superfund Site in Burlington, Vt., by gathering public input on plans to enhance part of the site's remedy and by conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the cleanup. Historic Record Flood Can't Stop Success: 30th LCI Father's Day Fishing Derby p/b Yamaha | For the 30th consecutive year, thousands of anglers joined family and friends to participate in the LCI Father's Day Fishing Derby presented by Yamaha on Lake Champlain from June 18th through the 20th. Despite record flooding this spring, the lake was below the 100 foot flood stage by the start of the Derby, and most lake access areas and marinas were clear for boats to launch. Read more...

Researchers: Single Fish A Keystone Nutrient Recycler In Streams | Researchers from the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology have found that certain neotropical stream ecosystems rely almost entirely on a single fish species known as the banded tetra for the critical nutrient phosphorus. In a paper recently published in the journal Ecology, the researchers, led by Gaston E. GE, others invest in wastewater bioreactor |
General Electric, NRG Energy, and ConocoPhillips, through their joint venture firm, have invested in a new kind of wastewater treatment technology.
They're backing Israel-based Emefcy, developer of the Megawatter System, which uses bacteria to turn a regular wastewater treatment plant into an electricity-producing bioreactor that produces both clean water and electricity. Read more...
