Lake Champlain Reaches Highest Level on Record: What does this mean for fish?
|
Lake Champlain flooding is unlikely to have negative impacts on fish populations in the lake this year. In fact, it is likely to have positive impacts on the reproduction of species like northern pike, muskellunge, chain pickerel and redfin pickerel. These and other species that spawn in marshes are benefited by an increase in the amount of suitable spawning, incubation and nursery habitat that results when rising lake levels flood shorelines.
